The first round of the IPS (International Proxy Series) was held in Canberra last Wednesday night and from a field of 24 cars from around the world Devious Dave took out 1st place with Phil Kalbfell equal 2nd. The Yanks, Canadians and Europeans filled most of the other spots. The event was held at Bob's very challenging 4 lane Scalex sport track which suited the cars down to the ground. If ever you get the chance to race on this track bring something that corners very well otherwise the locals are going to own you!

The proxy is for NC1, NC8 or BWA powered sports cars, pre 1964. Chassis can be anything you want except carbon fibre (it wasn't around in 1964) and must be inline. Of the 24 cars no 2 are alike when it comes to chassis design including some very clever brass or PCB or Slot.it pod designs such as this Chaparral

This series is limited to low powered motors and Ninco narrow tyres so I think there will be plenty of close racing,it certainly is a proxy with a difference. It was great fun building the cars and it will be great to see them it person and getting a chance to drive them, before they go off to Beejay.

Good to see the results. I am new to proxys and just posted my RAA entry off about an hour ago. I saw this race but I have absolutely no experience with this sort of car so let it slide. How is the idea of a brass Australian Proxy going Phil? It might be a good starting point and some fun. I saw Daves entry in the rally proxy at BMR and it was a beautiful handling rally car on a very demanding track so am not surprised to see him build a good handler.

I'm not really surprised. IMO He is the master at building proxy cars. Bloody cagey and smart racer as well. With 3 decades of experience he should be good shouldn't he? :P

Onya Dave and Phil. <_< :( (Is Tassie still part of Australia?) :whip2:

Best of luck to all other Ozzie cars as well.

It's a very tricky track with quite a few corners to catch you out. Normally I like fast, free flowing tracks but this one is converting me to the more technical tracks.

Round 2 was held a few days ago on Phil's Tassie track and Phil took out 1st place, narrowly beating the Stig.

Overall Phil is leading the proxy with Stig in 2nd. Not bad for a couple of Tasmanians.

Round 3 was held in England and the Stig took out the race. So far there has been a different Aussie in # 1 spot for each round, not bad when most of the 25 entrants are from overseas.

Goodonya guys!

Forgot to let you all know round 4 was won the other week by the Stig so that makes every round run so far won by an Aussie. :alcohol:

Here are the top 4 cars. That's mine in 3rd place, a podium finish at last!

Nice track, even though it suits high powered cars the locals were surprised that some of our cars broke the 20 lap barrier in the 3 minute heats, something that they normally associate with Slot-it powered cars, not NC1's! Just goes to show how well our cars are built.

Naturally I've been giving a bit of stick to the Yanks, Canadians and rest of the world about being constantly beaten by the "Downunder brigade".

The cars are currently on their way to Canada for rounds 5 and 6 then they go to America for the last 2 rounds.

Hope my car can take out a round as it's the only Aussie entry that hasn't won a round so far.

Cheers

Paul

This race just shows that Aussies can build some good cars. With four rounds rub so far the Aussie entries have won all four. Not sute that it will continue BUT stigs car has been built like the US guys build their cars so should do well. Unfortunattly my car is build like a typical Tassie car TOO heavy and it seem that the motor may have a problem.
This event had created a lot of interest so I hope it runs again next year.
Thanks for Lenny Broke for comming up with the concept.

Round 5 was run the other night and the Stig took out another win. That makes every round won by an Aussie. I think next year we rename this proxy the Aussie Invitational.

At least the Canadians know how to build a decent track.

Great live coverage of this event and congratulations to Sports Racer on a win. Dave finished in secong place. Great effort.
The Aussie's are ceratinly showing the way with this event. That is the fourth Aussie car to win in this event. The Aussie cars have won all six rounds so far.
