DUPR rules at Steve's site said:

"... 1.2.11.3 Metal rod bracing may be used between the rear of the motor and the rear axle/chassis on one piece (GROUP 1 – see below) chassis ONLY. ..."
Sorry for being blunt, but reading the 09 DUPR rules I found myself wondering which side is the "rear" of the motor: would it be the opposite side where the pinion is, or not?

The remaining items are very clear: congrats to those who wrote them up. Posted Image

Hope to have an entry in next year's DUPR!

Cheerio lads! :)

That would be the side of the motor facing (nearest) the rear axle in the case of a sidewinder or anglewinder mounted motor. In the case of an inline mounted rear-driven motor, it would be the end from which the pinion gear drives the rear axle crown gear. :)

correct - its from the rear of the motor backwards no matter what angle the motor is located within the chassis

Thank you both, chenglaw and aastes,

Now I fully understand what that rule means. Must say that the diagrams helped a lot! :)
Now to the second part of my investigation: do most of you guys in the DUPR reinforce your chassis' this way...?

Cheerio lads! :)

There is the well known problem of the 'Ninco Hop'. When running no mag downforce Nincos hop under hard accelaration. Just a simple bracing ( I actually just use paperclip type wire) which forms a sort of box section and the hop goes away. Power gets put down smoother and gears dont get crunched. No much of a problem with sidewinders (which Ninco dont make) but can be bad with anglewinders

Yup, I braced my Ninco Mosler with a piece of pcb epoxied to the chassis even though I didn't experience any "hop" with the car - you can never be too careful! And in any case, it added weight to where I needed it. :)
