I will be needing to paint the white lines on each side of the roadway very soon for my track and was looking for recommendations as to what to use to get a nice neat line.

I know some people have used the liquid paper tape... Is this the best thing or can you get white felt tip markers that do a good job?

As the lines are parallel to the slots a marker would be easiest if such a thing exists

Letraset Letraline might be worth a look (if you can still buy it). It's used for design and drafting on paper etc so it's very flexible.

I painted the edges white then put down a line using 6mm tape (I ran out of Tamiya tape so I cut some masking tape to 6mm with a sharp blade) I then painted my track paint over the top and when dry pulled up the masking tape - for a reasonably crisp white line. Better where I used the Tamiya 6mm tape than the masking tape - but the effect is right all the way around.

cheers

Johno, the guys in the U.S. use paint pens, I reckon that'd work fine.
Should be able to get one at a decent sized Newsagency... maybe?

I used the green auto masking tape (supercheap) over the white undercoat, then painted Ferrodore over the top, once all dry, two coats, pull up the tape viola, white edging around the track.
Cheers

Dont bother with the liquid paper tape..... I tried some on possum park and it's just to inconsistant, starts going down great until you get to a corner and it breaks or starts too lift and just looks like s#!t.... <_<

I ended up scraping most of it off.... might be OK if you want a well worn or delapidated look..

I used the white paint pen from Officeworks as Knoath suggested. It works great, you just need a steady hand. I wrapped duct tape around my hand so it gave a slippery surface to drag across the track surface and didn't wear out my skin! It helps if you mark the line out first with a white pencil as it is easier to follow rather than guess the location.

Now there's an excellent idea.... <_<

If I can get me a white pen then that would be ideal.

I can use my doodad that I made up when I was marking out the road to cut out the pieces.

I bit of wood with a nail in one end and a hole for the pen drilled into the other.

As the lines that I want to draw are parallel to the slots
Put the nail into the slot of the outside and inside lanes and away we go.

Should really be able to get a paint pen from any decent office supply place, or art supply, or even a good newsagent. I've even seen them at times at the Post Office. Posca are one of the better brands available (the vandals recommend them highly)

If all else fails on the paint pen search, try the local hardware suppliers for Colorbond touchup pens. The Surf Mist isn't quite white but it's pretty close.

I taped mine with masking tape then sprayed with an airbrush some flat white paint, canned spay paint might work too but will be no good inside.

Can you make 'em double ones in the middle of the track so's we can cross 'em with impunity? <_< :D :D :D

I've been hand painting white lines using a paint pen and a straight edge. Takes a steady hand, but I wanted a more rustic look. I like to do it early in the scenery process and then have some dirt/etc covering the lines. Just a couple examples ... it might suit your track in places.

As the lines are parallel to the slots a marker would be easiest if such a thing exists

I made a jig that ran in the slot with two guides, and a hole for a paint pen. It worked ok.
