I'm trying to emulate trackside grass for places that spectators would not normally go. Here is my first attempt at combinations using faux fur and streugrass.

A: Steugrass underneath my normal grass types

Posted Image

B: Faux fur with light coloured grass types up against it

Posted Image

C: Faux fur with dark coloured grass types up against it

Posted Image

I'm actually thinking that 'A' with small 'tussocks' of faux fur might be better than all of these.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Yes I agree. The finer the grass is / looks, the better it looks as far as being realistic IMO.

Yup I like the new one with the little bits of fur.

Will have to remember that one when I work on my scenery.

Hi there KK,
if you "concrete" the syrene in blue now, you are getting very close to what Forrest Elbow looks like.
Will have to find a photo, to show you what I mean.
Might be tomorrow before I find the picture.

That's the aim. ;) At the moment I am working on the Esses, as they used to be before 1980 when they created the sandtrap after Skyline. Not EXACTLY, just a less-groomed, more-rustic look than I currently have, not trampled flat by spectators. This is my inspiration:

That's a great shot for inspiration... where did you find it?

RE the last pic.
Can you explain how you achieved it?
Is the darker grass the faux fur and the green stuff the flock?

Looks great, you're raising the bar and I'm afraid I'm getting too old to jump that high!

More mate!!! ;)
Cheers,
Dick

Dick, its a good'un isn't it? I have all the Chevron books, this is from the compilation book that finishes with the 1996 race.

No pace car in 1969, the race just ran on. Bill Brown in the Firestone overalls has his helmet off. In less than 2 minutes, a snarling pack of GTHOs and GTSs will be thundering through there.

I'l do a how-i-did-it with pictures in the track thread as I do my Esses. In summary:

- drop spots of pva glue where you want the tussock
- lay faux fur upside-down until it dries
- trim away faux fur mat with a sharp blade
- paint it with acrylic until the fine fibres start to clump into stalks
- paint bare areas with diluted pva
- drop steugrass with puffer
- sprinkle with fine turf (burned grass) and foliage (light green)
- touch up faux fur with paint brush to remove unwanted sprinklings

Give it a go Dick. I'd kill for say, 40 of your trees. ;)

Ah yes, the trees... haven't done much at all lately... got about 20 so far, need to get the track started so I can see how many I actually need.
If there's any left, they're yours buddy! :)

Thanks for the how to.
It's on the 'to do' list! ;) ;)
Cheers,
Dick

While Im on the subject of recycled water I will pass this gem from the radio station this morning

The SA Government served notice in the High Court today on the states of Qld , NSW and Victoria requesting they allow more people to pee into the Murry River to help top up the water levels down stream.
The SA Government announced a 1.5 billion dollar plan to install a large filter at the border in an effort to better control the water quality of the Murry river system , A Government spokesman said -
