B)
Round 1 has been raced and won

Just the bare results - more detail to come later this evening explaining the what happened to my car etc.

Congrats to The Stig - Best car on the day scoring not just the overall win but fastest lap and best heat score
HomerN13 was unlucky to be blocked in the dying seconds of the very last heat else he may well have won the day

A BIG thank you to mtpanorama, ESPSIX, Manimmal and Slittlehales for doing all the driving

A great day, thanks for the opportunity Steve, enjoyed it greatly! There were some great cars today, surprise of the day for me was Gah5's car, it was a good thing despite its dubious looks. Haystacks car was another great performer. Datto's Aston had a great balance which made for consistant laps. Oldslots Jag was an excellent performer as well.
Was a great start to the proxy and I cant wait to see how things develop.

I'm guessing that means Taz only got me by about half a lap...???

2 laps behind the other Tassie Aston and we wont mention the Stig.... B)

Middle of the field....I'm pretty happy for my first Proxy...

It was a struggle for all MJK shod cars, mine included! Even the mighty Ortmann shod Aston of Manimmal's was looking for grip. The cars that really shone at this round were the "balanced" cars, ones that were really nice handling (unfortunately mine was not among that group, better luck next time) Dave G, Devious Dave & Haystack's cars were, in my opinion, the pick of the group in the "balanced" aspect. The Stigs car was obviously very quick and had the benefit of grip versus the ones I have already mentioned. I believe that the balanced cars will come to the fore in the later rounds of the proxy when everyones grip begins to fall off.

Great to see a round done and the race started. Interesting to see who has done well and then look at the setups. No surprise with the stigs car big torquey motor with easy 2.8 to 1 gear so would have BIG brakes and a heavy car with grippy NSR tyres. I am looking forward to watching how it all unfolds through the series. Wiz got a wooden spoon :) Bet no one teases him tomorrow night. As is always the case its a long haul yet with a few twists and turns to come but congratulations to those with points on the board. Its always good to get a head start.

Gah5 was the first car home with MJK's - general opinion was it would have finished higher but the front guide is loose allowing for a bit a slop

The tyre thing is interesting as I have never realy paid any attention as to what does well at my track.

Had a great days racing guys, thanks to all who were there!!!

Shame someone stole all the grip.
maybe you should be using WD-40 on your track Steve. :D

I feel for Homer, as he had it in the bag, until his car got blocked on the track on the last lap giving the overall win to the stig.

Gar5, your car has alot of potential, i thought the guide holder was broken!

If we're voting for concours, my vote goes to Datto's car (sorry Steve) it just looks great (goes pretty good to), and it's not a store bought paint job!!!

Steve, did you figure out which wing belongs to which car?, there were so many of them. :)

Thanks for the oppurtunity for a drive Steve, i had a great time, and got to drive some quick and smooth cars. Homer's car sounded like a coffee grinder, but still flew, the Stig's supra was going that quick that i caught the rear end on the outer wall of the bridge, which according to the track owner sounded like 'a pig being R@ped', we questioned him on how he knew the sound, he wasn't forthcoming.

Oldslot, your car is misrepresented in the results, you'll be moving forward no question.

As slittlehales said grip was low on raceday, but conditions were equal for all.

Thanks espsix for the lift too!!!!

Awww shucks..... :P :P I like to paint and wanted to do my own livery for my first proxy...

One of those wings was probably mine too, the supports are a bit dodgy.... :D

The first round as we know has been run and won. Some cars performed better during the race than practice. The race was held over two brackets of two minute heats per car, pre lunch and after lunch. Drivers were not rotated, only the cars. The morning session each driver was allowed a couple of warm laps with each car. Even though I advised them that Homers car was a rocket none believed me. However by the break it was homer leading from Haystack and the Stig. A car the drivers enjoyed was Gah5 Jag which just put the power down so smoothly. As the track rubbered up during racing it did effect some cars more than others. By the afternoon session WizardGMS not only had no breaks it had lost all grip as well and was really struggling. In general the perception of the drivers was that there was less grip in the arvo but the records show that 16 of the 27 cars actually went quicker as the day went on. Maybe they were being driven harder as the drivers got more used to changing cars and so were more on the limit. Mechanically the only car to suffer any form of problem was Tazracers who guide popped a wire twice but not during racing so it made no effect of its final position. Chenglaws and Haystacks were the cream of the Mosler crop in terms of drivability.
I have no doubts some different cars will move to the front as the series progresses. Some cars are definitely built to last. Others like Wizards need space which my track does not have, same for terrys. Sidecars needs more straights alsoWhether HomerN13’s is one of them I don’t know, it is very noisy and if anything sounded a bit worse by days end.
As a test I asked the drivers if they would mind running my box standard ( save for a set of homemade tyres) Scaley Jag, just to see how it would go against these super modified proxy specials. Well, it would have been good enough for third place had it run in the morning session, makes you wonder.
Also during the week I was asked how the cars went compared to last years Sports sedans. So I pulled out the little Anglia from last year. It sat in a box sinces its return so with new tyres and a bit more weight I buzzed it round after the racing and popped 6.593 second lap – only a year too late for it to be competitive
Greatest distance covered in a heat was Stigs 17.13 laps, the only car to break into the 17’s
As for lap times
the stig 6.650
bantoft 6.760
chenglaw 6.809
Homer 6.810
haystack 6.860
aastes 6.910
rock1776 6.930
daveg 6.960
hoffy 6.980
devious 7.030
imkuowl 7.030
triggy 7.031
gah5 7.040
lenny 7.077
oldslot 7.080
manimmal 7.137
mexico 7.139
tazracer 7.140
ronan 7.141
datto16 7.249
jas 7.252
nimrod 7.253
terry 7.253
wizardgm 7.254
bmr 7.300
slittleh 7.310
antony 7.311
sidercar 7.410

Now all I have to do is mix and match the wings which fell off during racing. 6 cars lost these

Well onto the next venue

One of those wings was probably mine too, the supports are a bit dodgy.... :D :)

7.300 what a slug ! well not all that bad really the times are spread out from 6.6 to 7.4 so its less than a seconds difference , That kinda makes me feel better about being way down the bottom , I think the scroll wheel on my mouse did 5 turns looking for my name .
well done , got any nice car n track photees to post ?

ps is wizards spur gear loose ? :D thats ok leave it loose :)

Datto - your's was the only Aston with complete wing at day's end....bantoft's lasted 2 seconds, and mine about 4 seconds. This might be something to do with the fact #46 was most drivable of the three at woodlands.

Pretty happy with team 007 - 7th, 8th and datto 13th. all I can say there is wait for the fast tracks.

It was very interesting to see the differing opinions on the 'rides' on the day. i didn't really like haystacks car, even though the 6.860 was me driving (everybody else loved it). In contrast Mexico's was rather 'unloved', i found it really rewarding - go figure.

Sidecar your car handles very well in a straight line!!!!!

A big thank you to all involved in the round and congratulations to the top place getters. It looks like the absence of any testing of the Mercedes has left me with rather a slow car, in hindsight I should have stuck with a standard long can motor and not fiddled with what I know but, hey, you have to try these things

Geez..thanks. ;) It is geared wrong. I had it set up running NSR crown/pinion set which shat itsself two days before the deadline and I had to run with the only spares I had which was a Slot.it 27/9 set.

My lesson from this year is not to use any of that overpriced poor quality NSR crap! Hopefully it can circulate as a mobile chicane.
cheers!

Steve

Should have gone the NC5 and NSR tyres. Hmmm, if my car is still a handful on BMR's big track then Ive learnt my lesson for next year. Perhaps limit the track selection to those having main straights of one hundred meters or more to give the big motors time to wind out ;)

I would have thought the drop arm in Oldslot's car would have been an advantage on such an undulating track??
cheers
