I've been working on the scenery end of things and I've just finished adding in a lighted Sunoco sign as well as grass, bushes, trees, the lot. Now that I finally started doing some landscaping I'm enjoying it in a big way! Here are some photos of what I've done so far:

Hi Ronan,
how hard or easy was the control tower.
Did you download it from the german website?
Thanks Christian

Hi Christian!

The control tower is a card kit by Bauer. I bought it online from a German seller and I saw it in stock from MRE in the UK as well I think.

It was pretty straightforward to put together, I used a flat cutting surface, a metal ruler and some roll on adhesive to put it together. It comes with a set of walk up stairs to the front door, but instead I decided to essentially "bury" it in the scenery and bring the ground level up to the door and not use the stairs (which looked crap in all honestly!). Overall I'm pretty pleased with it!

Stunning - you must be very proud of your hard work! Is that a car being craned back onto the track in the background??Looking forward to seeing some more shots as you go.

Stunning Ronan.
How did you do the Red & White 'Ripple strips"? They look very "crisp, sharp & clean".
Normal people worry me

I used "T" mould on my track for ripple strips. This stuff is used on desk edges and carpet joining strips. I used white and painted the red. Looks like Ronan has painted his on the track.

Thanks triggy! Glad you like it!

Phil is absolutely correct, I masked off the areas I wanted to paint then firstly painted in the white portion, then later masked off sections of the white area and added in the red. I was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out and the visual effect of the red/white pattern looks great when driving. I think for the most part it took 2 coats of white and then 2 coats of red to get them looking right. Taking off the masking tape was a pretty big job I have to say!

Thank you! I am pleased with how it's turning out so far, much better than I thought it would if I'm honest!

In the far corner is a 1:32 telehandler/crane diecast model from which I've suspended a Saico 1:32 racing Renault Clio. I've seen other cranes around other landscaped slot car tracks and I've always thought they are an interesting feature. So far the Renault hasn't come crashing down!

I'll take a close up shot of it later on and post it here.

LOL! My wife rolled her eyes in despair at what a "nerd" she married, but then had to admit the Sunoco sign was pretty cool!

Plenty more scenery ideas to add to the track and I will indeed try to photograph as I go.

LOL! I aim to please! The shipping was not that expensive if I remember right from the States to Ireland (they are packed in small boxes) so hopefully the shipping won't be too bad to Australia either.

Glad you like the look of the track too!
Thanks,
Ronan

Ronin,

Nice work on your track! I really like your rescue 110 Land Rover that is next to the Dunlop tower. What scale is it and where did you get it from?

LOL! Not quite!

The Land Rover is a 1/35 resin model by Hong Kong Models and it is a "bomb disposal" police Land Rover apparently. The Ford Ambulance is by the same maker and is also 1?35.

I got them from a Hong Kong seller a few months ago but I can't find the details of the sale unfortunately (the seller might not be on ebay anymore).

They are nice models and well detailed and finished for resin models. A bit small obviously but I think they look good!
