This is a list of lessons I have had to learn in running a proxy - hopefully they will be of use for future coordinators

Lesson learnt 1: If entries are paid via Paypal (which is good) add a cover charge to cover Paypal fees (which are bad)

Lesson Learnt 2: If I say something is in Black and white " someone somewhere will ask how black is black

Lesson Learnt 3: If something can be read " it can therefore also be misread

Lesson Learnt 4: If you change a rule someone will ask WHY CHANGE IT, if you don’t change the rule someone else will always ask WHY NOT CHANGE IT.

Lesson Learnt 5: You can please some of the people some of the time, and you can please some of the people none of the time

Lesson Learnt 6: Time to change the name to Down Under Paranoid Race 2009 B)

Lesson Learnt 7: No matter how many words are used to explain anything some will still ignore it and blame the wording for getting it wrong - KISS :(

Lesson Learnt 8: If EVER I think about doing such a silly thing as trying organise grown (groan) men I must immeadiately go back onto my medication (prescription or otherwise) and seek emergency psychiatric help

Steve

We need to get an African Rhinoceros to run the next one as you need a skin that thick. Don't worry it will go fine once it is underway.

Dead right on both counts Vinno.
Steve you are doing a great job through this "administration" period. Share the load with your 6 "back up" guys and you should be able to stay sane B)  It should all be worth it in the end.

Second what everyone has said. aastes the rules are set. I and everyone else will build cars to those rules. There are still dozens of cars to choose from. Oh and can I get a second opinion on the shade of black and white that is acceptable? B)
cheers

I'll be paying "direct deposit", don't have paypal, so keep the change mate.

Lesson Learnt 2: If I say something is in Black and white …quot; someone somewhere will ask how black is black B)
I looked, do you know just how many blacks there are?? :(

Lesson Learnt 3: If something can be read …quot; it can therefore also be misread
I thought we were talking about black and white, not red. :nice:

Lesson Learnt 4: If you change a rule someone will ask WHY CHANGE IT, if you don’t change the rule someone else will always ask WHY NOT CHANGE IT.
I'll leave this one alone, i don't want any nasty P.M.'s from someone.

Lesson Learnt 5: You can please some of the people some of the time, and you can please some of the people none of the time :(
your not here to please anyone, your here to bend to their will.

Seriously though, Sidecar Steve went through the same sort of crap, and look how good this years proxy turned out.

Errrm yes. Seems to go with the job I'm afraid. Another thing to remember for next year. Use words of one syllable or less in the regs so as not to confuse our Canadian cousins B)

I followed last years proxy from a distance as I was very new to slots. I have seen things in some walks in life where pedantic souls get all weird over stupid things so ijust observed how everything transpired. The common sense approach from sidecar steve was impressive and perhaps he can take a little credit for such a strong entry this year. I hope this event grows from strength to strength and the fun aspect is kept very much alive.
I used to Drink too much. I still do but i used to to.

Any help you need "convincing" people you just let me know. I've got some big mates who can help.

Just as soon as their missus's let them out.

No mate, I had a word with your missus and as soon as you've finished the ironing and got all those dishes cleaned she said you could come out to play. :D

Cheers

Paul

PS: She also wanted some firewood and you need to lop down the tree that's hitting the side of the house. ;)

Hey Steve,

Here are a few other things to add to your list.

Packaging:
  • Try to get entrants to send their cars packed and wrapped in as small a box as possible. International postage is very expensive and even local return postage can be bloody expensive for big heavy crystal cases! Oh, and storing all the various sized boxes for the duration of the series was a pain.
  • If including spares, make sure entrants provide a list of what spares they sent and put them in some sort of small container.
  • The one big box with foam tray inserts worked well and seemed to be an economical way of getting all the cars from one place to another.

Return addresses:
As we live in a society where people move house often....make sure entrants understand that they must provide a CURRENT return postal address at the end of the series.

Mental Health:
When as the organiser you (inevitably) cop some flack, remember that it is all the governments fault. They made the laws that make it illegal to kill stupid people.  :) :D

Please do not pack the cars in foam without protecting the tyres. I noticed that several cars had dry spots and marks where the tyres had contacted the foam that Steve had used.

Martin provided some great small boxes a couple of years ago and they were great, they protected the cars and were easy to pack, don't suppose he can still get them?

If the box yours came in was what you referred to, then yes, they would be perfect.

To be honest, I hadn't thought about the foam on tyres thing, but then again I don't use tyres that need to be soaked in treatments to make them work.....
cheers!

Steve

Yes Steve that is the box's Martin supplied, I have sent cars around the world with only some bubble wrap around them.

It was not only the NSR's but a couple of the MJK's also seemed to have marks from thr foam when I got them, but they did all clean up O/K with detergent or WD as recommended.
