I finished up doing my signs for the track so I thought I'd give a simple "how I did it." I tried to use signs appropriate for the French Alps--actually, I accidentally started with Swedish signs and then found the appropriate signs. Here are the basic steps.

(1) Download and print the signs on thick photopaper. If you need a little more thickness for the sign, use white glue and glue a 2nd sheet of paper to the back of the sign.
(2) For the back of the signs, I fill them in with a "silver" Sharpie pen so that it looks like metal.
(3) For the "metal sign posts", I mounted the signs to aluminum tubing (which I found at my local hobby store)--no painting necessary. I've also used painted wood and styrene sticks/tubing for the posts, but aluminum tubing was cheap at my LHS, requires no paint--one less step-- and it the real material.
(4) Cut aluminum tube to size and mount the sign using Superglue,
(5) drill hole and place into scenery.

Here's the final product, which with little effort turns out fairly realistic.

Fantastic work there jmswms, love that first shot the green leaves in the background add to the realism of it all.

those signs, and the track shots generally are awesome! i print my signs onto decal paper, and then attach them to styrene sheet, works well, a bit more work and more expensive though.....
