Gday all. I was wondering where many of you who have bought trees sourced them from. I am not really in the mood to make a heap of trees and would much prefer to just buy them off of ebay if possible. Thanks in advance.

Try Ebay under railroads/trains... get trees that are 100mm or bigger

Model Railroad Craftsman at Blacktown had a huge range on display at a recent show I attended. You could also contact Joe at Casula Hobbies at Liverpool. I am sure he could help.

If you want Aussie trees you're gonna have to do them yourself - they'
re a lot more open than European stuff

Thanks guys. If I do buy them, do 120 mm high trees look ok if placed away from the cars or do they look out of scale significantly?

Trees will be the bane of my scenery. It's the one thing I have only briefly attempted, and I saw plenty of room for improvement. :) I think Knoath also went to a lot of trouble and tried to make trees. I liked his stuff but I think he wasn't happy either.

Do yourself a favour and get hold of the Woodland Scenics video. I picked it up for $6 from Armchair Racer. I has a piece on making trees with their products. Its cheaper than buying ready made and you can achieve the 'sparse' look that Eno mentioned. I have lots of trees to do, and I'm not yet prepared to spend the money it would take in Woodland Scenics.

I assume you've done searches of how to make cheap trees?

If Tileguy still surfs around here, he might give us some pointers...

I have made a few trees fairly cheaply by using twigs of real trees - carefully select the sizes you want and look for twigs with lots of branches - you can also glue extra branches on - I usually drill a small hole to do this. I then use ground up foam that I have died various shades of green and then put in a blender glue this on with PVA or contact glue - clump it as best you can sometimes a little hairspray helps to hold it together - the tree below cost me next to nothing to make - I am happy with the result
especially when I know how much good trees cost in this scale..

size wise - a 120mm tree is = to a 3.8m tree in real life - the average gum tree is a bit larger than that - I think 32cm for 10m tree...I know there is a bloke at the model train shows who makes his trees Trackside Trees - I can't find a web link though - will keep searching and post if I find something..

I brought a few different styles and heights from 32mm up to 120mm. They are a bit too green fof me so I used my airbrush to add some black and browns to the "foam leaves" and they look a lot better now.

Hi Phil

Great links mate............ I dont genually order from China on ebay for the fear of losing my money with a dodgy seller, but with a name of WeHonest I couldn't help myself  . Bought 20 qty of the 110mm trees for $20 with free postage. Serously how can you go wrong :bday: . If this goes well. I'll be putting a larger order.

I have had no problems with WE HONEST. The trees will need a little airbrushing to look more realistic. The yellow ones look like wattles!
