No great dramas tonight Manimals body did manage to jump with out the chassis again and McGregor lost a lead wire.

Ran a little experiment after the event.

Phil turned the track down to 9.25 volts and I gave Hellrazor a run. Got down to a 5.97! Just beautiful to drive at that voltage.

Gazza • very easy stringing consistent laps together. Noisy rear end.
Old Slot • so much better on Phil’s track. Quite nice to drive now.
Aastes • as usual, surprisingly fast. (I bought an Anglia body a couple of days ago (must build something similar myself)
Espsix • hard to be smooth. Transition between accelerating & braking just a little too much for Phil’s technical track.
Hmcsat • Got faster with each lap. Quite easy to drive.
Sport Racer • Had to feather a little over hump. Looked harder to drive on outside lanes. Lock rear under brakes •?? very fast.
BMR - very nice to drive.
Sprint • front wheels not turning. Hard to get in the groove with the car.
Hellrazor • so much performance • so little control!
Imkouwl • Apart from front end chatter was quite competitive.
Smallnails • easy to drive. Felt a little down on herbs.
Kalbfell • so easy to string laps together. Engine feels down a bit.
Mopardevil • Think one of the tyres has come unglued. Occasional hopping. Fairly quick though
Imugford • not enough weight at the front. Could be much quicker.
Manic • not too far away. Tyres let go quickly • snap oversteer.
Antony • very nice to drive. Suited Phil’s track very well.
Scar • competitive even though could only use half throttle.
SidecarSteve • Very nice to drive. Think it transfers too much weight on to front wheels into a couple of the corners causing de-slot.
Oswald- - Reasonably quick. Able to lap consistently.
Bitman • felt tight. Quite a bit of performance left in the car somewhere.
Devious Dave • Loose body in a couple of brackets - lost a couple of screws. A nice car
Newsome • not much power. Grip a little lacking. Could be a much quicker car.
Fangio • Can’t figure out why it didn’t do better • correction • why the drivers didn’t do better. It is a pretty quick car.
Mcgregor • broken lead wire • lost several laps as a result. Hand grenade performance hard to handle
Eno • Very smooth if you kept it straight. Digs front wheels in when pushed and de-slots.
Magoo • Blew the doors off • well one of them - literally. Didn’t know Fly Capri bodies had separate door panel. Very consistent car.
Mannimal • exploded again!

Nice to see the results up early , in Adelaide we raced on Friday nights , obviously the Tassie crews race on Wednesday nights or is Tassie just that far ahead on the time zone
Thanks for the comments Boss 302 Im now looking forward to Phils comments and some photos , cheers for running the night and I know you had a good time because we all have a good time playing with slot cars huh .
Glad to see the BMR Torana is still hanging together in one piece , it does have a heavy body with all that plastic layered over the top to make the flares - its built a bit like a bulldozer.
Congrats to Phil , aaaagain we need to come up with a new proxy penalty to handy cap those that win it every year , maybe we can all insist that Phil build 3 wheel cars

P.S. I want to pre order a 3 wheeler from Phil for next years race .

Like some of the others have said,thanks for the running of the round,thanks to the marshalls and drivers,and to Phil for a typical smooth round.

Its all been a learning experience here,tyres,motors,set up,hopefully we will have next year to put this lessons learnt to good use.

Sorry guys very few pics on the night,bit short on guys to help. But all still went well,it becomes easier as the more we do.
All the guys know thw procedure so it does not take tht long to do.
Even with the couple of repairs we managed the race in about 2 hours. So it left some time for supper and a bit of playing with Hellrazors car.

I will try and sort my notes out tonight and post them on Friday.

Whats the lap record on your new track phil?

Boss mentioned in his notes one of my tyres may have come unglued. Any chance of a reglue before they get sent off?

The Shelmore track record has not really been set at this time as the surface is still improving. BUT my Ninco 997 Porsche with a Shark fitted laps in 5.8's, Slot It Porsche 5.6 and the couple of laps I did with a Cam An brass chassis resulted in 5.2's.

I have repaired all the cars and packed for posting, Some of the cars with MJK tyres glued on will need the tyres re gluing I wasn't sure what to glue these with, all the other cars that had NSR's glued on have been fixed.

The race procedure at Shelmore was to run all the cars with hand made (MJK ORtmans )tyres first so that the NSR tyred cars did not effect the grip level.(The NSR tyres were the most popular just over the MJK tyres.)

General Note :

Please glue the rear tyres on the cars bounce on our tracks with out the tyres glued, probably the easiest way to gain some improvement down here.
Weight: IMO the cars need around the 100 grams at least here and IMO it is best to try and locate the weight between the two axle lines to avoid any pendulum effect. (Rick might like to start a thread on this again! )

A proxy cars should be smooth and easy to drive, always remember the drivers do not have that long to become familiar with the handling of each car.Yiou probably do hundreds of laps with your cars the proxy drivers don't.

These comments and thoughts are only my opinion. I hope they may will help the entrants build a car that better suits THIS track next year.

I have tried to make some helpful suggestions in regard to setup for the two tracks down here. I would try what I have suggested on your test track and see what difference it make and try to reach a compromise.

Anthony: Celica Very good car. One rear axle bearing is starting to show some sign of wear. Possible a little light for this track,would be great with just a little more
weight.

Asstes: Anglia Surprising car! A little light for the motor on this track. Only real problem was the rear tyres, they are not glued and cause some bounce.

Imugrord: Charger. This car was areal problem and I could not see why, it was coming out of the slot under acceleration. After racing I removed the body and noticed that the weight was well behind the rear axle! So I added about 5 grams of weight just in front of the motor the car was great and would have been well up the lap chart. I have removed the added weight now. I would like to see this test run again and see what difference it makes on a different track.

HMSAT: Vw The Ninco tyres on this car have very little grip on our tracks down here. But other than the mounting screws not allowing enough body float it seem good.

BMR: Torana My sort of handling! Only problem was some bounce in the rear and gluing the tyres on would probably fix that. Good car.

Manimal: Escort What car I say! Too light for the motor, not body float (while it was attached! ) being so short and light it was very hard to drive.

Devious Dave: Audi: Very nice smooth car. Power to weight is very good. Just a little bounce from the rear tyres but not causing any problems.

Manic: Capri Disappointed as this car should have gone better I thought. Weight was not far off for the motor. But the Slot It tyres just had little grip. This may have been due to much of the weight being well forward in the car.

Ozwald: Celica Power to weight about right, I would like to try moving the weight further back as I think it would improve the car.

Gazza: Good car. Power to weight very good. Bouncing probably due to one rear bearing worn.

Espsix: Capri Rear axle bearing a bit loose causing some bounce. Gearing or motor way out, feels like it needs 20ft straight. Tried this car on 10 volts and it was great.

McGregor Capri Good car but way over powered for these tracks.

Bitman Celica Very good preparation IMO the weight needs moving inside the axle lines.

Hellrazor Renault. Great car on 10 volts! This car is very good just over powered for our short tracks down here.

Fangio: Audi Good car, I would like a bit more pod movement , gearing a little wrong, this may be due to replaced gear! Still accelerating at the end of the straight.

Newso: Audi Might be carrying a little too much weight,BUT I think the motor is just down on power. About right other wise.

Scar: Celica This car still has the 30,000 MRRC motor ! I think with adown grade to about 23,000 rpm it would be a lot better. Rear axle bearings a little loose.

Sports Racer: Calibra Very good cars as to be expected surprised in is not further up the lap scores.

Mopar: Camaro Good cars seems swell prepared possible just a little bit over powered for the chassis style

Imkouwell Torana This car has some motor problems, it smoked in at Hammering! I have cleaned it out but still down on power. One rear tyre is unglued causing some problems.

Sprint: Capri Good car little light but the gearing is a bit out for our straights.

Smallnails: Camaro: What can I say It’s from Launceston! Pretty good car weight is about right for the chassis. I would like to see this cars with a softer motor like a 23,000 Slot it to see how it goes.

Magoo: Capri Chattering badly in the rear, not sure why weight seems O/K moving the weight may improve it.

Sidecars Steve Monaro Nice smooth car gearing does not suit this track. Weight is about right for this motor.

Oldslot Camaro This car arrived with a cracked chassis under the motor mount! I repaired it and it certainly improved but the chassis might be out of alignement as the car is bouncing. I noticed that one of the rear tyres is staring to come unglued so that may be the problem.
