Joe’s track has been around for quite a while and is super smooth. No bumps or ripples so quick cars have no problem putting the power down. Add to that a nice layer of rubber which never gets rubbed off and you have the recipe for a quick lap

A quick lap time is under 7 seconds. The official lap record is 6.43 with a Proslot Toyota GT1. Hellrazors Proxy car did 6.48 in practice a couple of months ago so anything faster than the Renault R5 would have to be something pretty special. The track suits powerful cars and with 4 lanes and 3 or 4 minute heats + qualifying you can be sure you car will get a workout. All the drivers are older than Ben Hur and I can predict some pretty wild racing next weekend without (hopefully) any carnage although I can’t guarantee the safety of any cars from Tasmania.
It has been rumored that turn 2 at the left of the picture might have been built on a sacred site. The original inhabitants of the land were expelled 200 years ago by an ex Tassie land baron who bought up the whole valley for a bag of beads and some Midnight Oil LP’s. The old inhabitants have plotted revenge ever since and have vowed retribution on anyone (or anything) from the Apple Isle. Will that happen this week?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
Cheers
Paul
