Hi all,

I am just about to start a new restoration project, and am looking for some assistance.

I have been given a Marusan 1/24 scale Lotus 25 slot car to restore, and I need some pics of the front and rear suspension components, and the steering wheel section.

The car is virtually complete, but has broken lugs on the roll bar and exhaust, and is missing the steering wheel and all the suspension struts, and the pic on the cover is not of any use. I have some good pics of other manufacturer's versions, but most are models and not slots, and are way too detailed to reproduce.

I would also like pics of the entire car, as I am sure that the front and rear axles have been switched, as the front ones are much wider than the rear. Its also been painted red instead of British Racing Green, so any pics of the correct colour scheme, including stripes & decals would also be appreciated.

I will also need new grub screw for the gears and lock nuts for the wheels, so if anyone knows the correct sizes, or compatible manufacturers, it would be a great help.

Will try to post progress pics as I go.

Thanks,
Graeme

Well, I've had no luck getting hold of any pics, but have continued with the restoration anyway.

Have stripped the car back (it used to be a sickly red) and given it a base coat of yellow. I will mask this off to leave a yellow nose and stripe down the centre, before I apply the outer coat of British Racing Green.

I have also repaired the mechanics, getting the axles the right way around, digging up grub screws and wheel nuts, & adjusting the gearbox assembly to make it a fully working model. Its not very quick, and the tyres have little grip on my old slippery track, but it does still work.

Will post more pics as I continue the restoration work.

Any help or ideas for the suspension components would be appreciated.
Graeme

Hi Graeme
you might have more success with help over at Slot forum or Slot Blog. Just look out for the right wing paranoia on the blog.
Cheers Lenny

This looks pretty close. The car needs a clean. Hope it is of some help.

Hey Alan,

Thanks for the pics. I am pretty sure thats the same model (alhtough the chassis and motor are different).

The body shape is identical, and the driver, rollbar and intake pots all look the same.

The only issue is that it is also missing the suspension arms on the front and back, as is mine, so I guess I will have to use my imagination.

Thanks anyway!
Graeme

The motor and frame under the yellow car is Atlas, 6v with ball races.

Still hoping someone can supply me with pics of the suspension components?

Graeme: Are you sure that car is Marusan? To me it looks like an Atlas motor and chassis, the bevel gears also look like Atlas to me. I thought all the Marusan cars had pressed chassis and Mubuchi style motors.

Phil,

No idea really. I am restoring this car for a friend of mine, and this was what was in the Marusan box. I can only presume that it all belongs, and certainly, it fits in quite nicely, but as to whether its the original chassis or not, I cannot say.

I realise this is an old thread and Graeme has presumably finished the Lotus 25 restoration, but as a new member I'll offer a little for anyone following it. I have a 1/24 Marusan Cooper body which I've stored for about 20 years in a 'San display case, but I also have a Marusan Cooper box. I forget the source(s) but words on the box may help on Marusan components. The specifications include "NEW AT-208 MOTOR", which tallies with the suggestion of an Atlas motor.
I also have suitable axles and wheels, but I'm not sure if they are originals. The wheels have wonderful "knock-on/off" centre-locking hubcaps and the tyres seem hollow. They look of conventional black "rubber". The box lists "sponge rubber tires", but in the 1960s that may not mean what it did from the 1970s on.
I also have a complete 1/32 Marusan Brabham BT-3 and box. The motor-chassis unit looks roughly similar to Graeme's photos of the 1/24 Lotus's (though smaller). The specs say "GIANT FLAT IN-LINE MOTOR WITH NEW SIDE-MOUNTED BRUSHES DEVELOPED EXPRESSLY FOR GP CARS'".
I have books with photos of full-size Lotus 25s. In the unlikely even of Graeme still working on the car, he is welcome to contact me and I'll see if any show suspension detail. His paintwork in the early stages looks great.
I'd be quite willing to part with the 1/24 Cooper body (and the axles and wheels). Even my statics don't include any others of that period in 1/24.

HI guys

I just come across one of these kits in my collection. It isnt 100% complete and it also has parts from another brand in it. I havent any instructions for this one ,so Im not really sure what actually is from the original Marusan kit. From the side of the box it sort of shows the brass chassis (i think ?). Any idea what the die cast metal chassis is from? Is the pittman from the original kit , it looks as if it hasnt been used.

Hi Clevo, the chassis on the left looks like a Dynamic to me.

Hey - I wonder what size the wheels on that car are - maybe they will fit on the front of my K&B GT40 - old thread I know but GRT did you make them yourself - be keen to know if they might fit - my need to place an order

Clevo looks like he will need a couple to make up the car for his kit as well

cheers

The body, stickers and pittman are original from the kit. I think you will find the brass chassis is also.

I have the original intructions if you are interested.

Cheers

The Marusan kits did not come with a pittman motor,if you look at the pics of Graeme's car you will see that the brushes are mounted thru the side frame, unlike pittmans. The motor is actually Atlas, as Atlas and marusan are one and the same. Yes the die cast chassis parts are Dynamic.

Cheers for the replies.

I bought this kit a few years back with plans of finishing it off, its just fallen way behind the to do list. I seem to accumulate too many unfinished projects. The motor has pittman USA on side. Brushes look like new.

DM, I will send a PM later re tyres

Bisto, I would love to get a copy of the instructions

Gotta go, the missus is on my case about cataloguing the cars
