Last night I had 8 of the Q32 guys visit for the track opening and trophy night. We ran Porsche Cup as part of our season long 3 part series, V8 Supercars and Formula 1. All rather appropriate with the Oz GP on this weekend.

I know a few people have been waiting for some updated pics, but I have been keeping the progress to myself so the guys who made the effort to visit wouldn't walk in and say 'oh yeah, saw it on the net.'

The track proved to be everything I hoped it would be. Great to look at when racing or marshalling, fair for all with plenty of passing places but a few merges to keep people honest, easy to marshall, but most of all a real challenge to drivers of all skills but not so hard that new comers would struggle.

Anyway, here are the pics.....

Even the wives got in on the act. Glad to see Mrs Phoeno has the 'eyes on'

The left hand side of the track needs a bit more work to finish as I ran out of time last week, photos to follow next week.

Awesome, absolutely awesome. I can't see the footbridge though. Did that idea get dropped or was in the out of time part??

Sorry Schuey, the foot bridge got dropped, not quite enough room to make it as good as I would have liked and the outside of the corkscrew would have been cramped. Went with the rock wall and gravel road instead.

Martin that looks brilliant. I can almost see the gaggle of cars on the way up the hill through the cutting.

How about a pic of a coming together on the first lap of a V8 supercar race through there.

Thanks for all the great comments, much appreciated. Its been 5 months of work with another month or two to go on the grandstand. All comments were favourable on the night.

I feel a bit sad in some ways, the excitement and anticipation of getting the next bit done is coming to an end. As much as I wanted to work on it every day to get to the end as soon as possible, the building processes is a major part of the fun of having a routed track and I will miss that side of it when its finished.

So all of you guys building tracks, enjoy the building challenge and the things you learn from that process. Take your time, do it once and do it right. Driving on a track you build yourself is a great feeling, but after a while, its just another track to drive on and your already planning the next one.

Martin, I don't think any of us has the right words to describe how good it looks from both a viewing and a driving perspective. All we CAN say is well done.

Cheers
Stu

Martin First of all I have to say what a great job you have done with the track also your web site with all the information and the photos its all well done . I, m thinking about going to wood. nothing as well done as what you have done I don't reckon I have the patience and skill required . what i would like to know is how wide and how long your track is .and have you used power taps and also what power supply you have used .
Kind regards Peter

Hi Slider,

Thanks for the kind words. Table is 16ft x 8ft or 4.8m by 2.4m. Power taps, one per lane from the power supply which is a car battery with a cheap charger on it to keep it topped up. I don't really have an accurate measurement on the lap lengths but I think its about 21m to 23m.
