Ben_M
Wind back the turbo and tighten up the hand brake. Welcome to tight and twisty roads of Round 7 of the 14/15 Oz Rally Proxy at Wagburn. The event will take place over 3 stages. The first short stage will be on my old Autotest style track- The Coin Track. It has a paving paint surface (not much grip) and will be 10 laps in the Anti-clockwise direction. Big motors dont help here at all, only about 10-20% of the lap is at full throttle. The are corners which tighten up or open up, long radius corners where you need to try and get the car in one gentle drift and a hell of a lot of change in direction. The tight corner at the end of the back straight will probably cause some problems. Good car should be around the 10 sec mark. Stage 2 will be on my new Wahgburn track run in the Clockwise direction and about 25 laps. Surface is Dulux Suede with a clear coat, medium amount of grip. This is the easier of the two directions and cars dont have too many issues. Good car is about 5 sec mark. Stage 3 The new track has grown aver the past few weeks with the addition of a new middle module. This section is a bit more open and includes a couple of risers which will mean a fast car may get slightly airborne 3 times in one lap. This will be run in anti-clockwise direction and about 35 laps and will be the endurance stage. Cars can have a bit of an issue with the tight esses on the left hand side, they also need to be controlled over the jumps. God car is about 7 seconds. I gave all of the cars a test run of 2 or 3 laps on stage 1 tonight. Only 1 major issue with one of the raids for which the owner has been contacted. The cars handled the track much better than expected which was good news. But, we do have the first winners of the event- The coolest car award which was chosen by my boys aged 2 and 5, the winners were. Well done lads, off to a great start Hoping to get a couple of stages done over the weekend. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING

kalbfellp
Welcome to the OzRally as a host Ben. Great to have you hosting this year, and thanks for all the effort in the last few weeks. Ben has put in a big effort recently, extending the one track sorting the timing, all in short notice. Now just enjoy running the cars. Ben_M
So, stage 1 for the WRC cars was actually run last night As expected, the tight corner at the end of the back 'straight' caused a few problems. This piss poor photo gives an example of what some cars were doing here. Believe it or not this one dropped back into the slot and kept going, others not so much luck. It wasn't the only corner where cars went into stunt mode. Onto the cars. NTZ was the first car out. Fairly rough sounding and lacked rear grip. Didn't give much confidence. Last years champion Gazza struggled. It really didn't like the tight corner, it would rather tip than slide. Tyres too wide? OTFS had plenty of grip, almost too much. Maybe lacked a bit of power but not a problem on this track. GAS41T was nice to drive, plenty of grip and had no need to tip. Alexis' car was a bit noisy but nice to drive. Might have been down on rear grip. Another car that liked to two wheel it What can I say, I prefer a crunchie? Was hard to get a flow going, it was a bit inconsistent to drive. P Gunns was nice to drive most of the time but could get very bouncy and loose on exit without warning. Was looking forward to trying these smaller Avant slots. Knealers didn't have much power down low but heaps up top. Car set up was good but hard to tame on the tight track. Look forward to driving this on a more open track. Cure's SCX was one of the best but it did not like the tight corner. Tape on the bottom of the chassis came loose and stated dragging on the last lap. (you have a pm) Struggled with 'Ninco Hop', had to be very gentle with the throttle. The grand kids do it again! Nice solid car, very predictable. Nothing beats a well set up Avant slot. Great car. So, to the results.......... A couple of surprises. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING

miveson
I'm rather upset they stopped making Violet Crumble..... the Crunchie is a poor 2nd in my book. Slo
That was quick. Another round of Ozrally kickin' off already. Well presented with great pictures and commentry, great stuff Ben! Your gonna be busy this week by the looks of it. Very happy to see the Subie bounce back a little on this stage, looking forward to seeing what the next 2 stages unfold. Lots of good cars this year with plenty of surprizes. The Cure had a good time, what a wild beast that one is eh!? What clear coat did you you use on the suede? Have fun. Ben_M
What clear coat did you you use on the suede? I used extra bright base, as suggested by the guru OTFS. Seems to work well. I finished stage 1 yesterday but there will be no results until this evening. Enjoy your day. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING
Knealer
Thanks for running the stages Ben and the comments on my car. I did suspect the avant motor may be more of a big circuit motor and might be a bit much for rally. Really enjoying the oz rally, rounds are coming in fast and feedback on cars is top notch! Keep up the good work it's most appreciated!

Ben_M
Thanks all for the kind words. I'm just doing what I have enjoyed from other hosts over the years. Lets see how long I can keep it up . First up Raids, just results for now, pics and comments to come. I had thought of not using this stage for the raids as I figured they might not be much fun, they seemed ok in initial testing but...... It was very nervous driving as they could tip very easily. My car was nice to drive as it had no grip and just slid everywhere. Only two of the others were a it nice to drive. To the results. Ben_M
Phils X5, was not a real fan of changing direction. Miveson's Buggy was just plain tippy (needs more lead) Team Red's poor mans Porsche had the front pop out....... a lot....... Had to back off lots to keep it in the slot. The only non Ninco, was on the edge of tipping. Too much power to be able to steer it with the throttle which is kind of important around here. Less power and it would have been on the money (maybe ) Nice one, I could actually start to push the limits with this one. Great car, drives really well but was just a little inconsistent. A few deslots cost the stage wins. Quote Some slot (and MTB) vids NOW SHOWING
shadow_rusty
Thanks Ben... Really think that 40shore urethanes would have been better on it, but I'm still glad that it's at the pointy end and people are having fun with it. Still think that my BMW is the faster of the 2 cars, but no one else was running the truck, and there were already 2 bmw's, so the choice was easy. Looking forward to what the rest of the stages brings. Also, I'm very disappointed that I couldn't make it up there to give you a hand... Damn busted 1:1 car... Ben_M
Thanks Ben... Also, I'm very disappointed that I couldn't make it up there to give you a hand... Damn busted 1:1 car... Not to worry, the help would be great but im running most of the stages when either everyone has gone to bed or everybody is still in bed so its not exactly Sunday afternoon racing....... Anyhoo, on to the Historics. A very tidy bunch of cars with most not making life too hard for me. The Mini. The fans love it, especially the Mini Appreciation club. I was hoping this could be the stage where it jumps off the bottom of the ladder but not to be. Who cares really, look at it! I didnt realize how small it was until I unpacked it, it wasn't all that bad. It did struggle on the fast chicane section. It didn't come off, just couldn't go very fast. Great fun to drive, but unfortunately that normally means no rear grip and slow times. And thats what went wrong here. I think the Stratos wass hung over from the celebrations of being named one of the coolest cars! It was nice to drive and held the slot really well but it was just missing something to get it further up the leaderboard. Not sure what though. Great car to drive, could really push it hard and get a good drift on and stay fast. Punched above its weight on this stage, When I said wind back the turbo boost for this stage I didn't mean take it off! Lacked power and brakes and was a bit tippy. Also broke the timing system with ghost passes so had to re-run after the others. Boss's Renault, or 'The Brick' as im calling it. It hopped on every single corner, had good pick up on the straights. If it could stay flat in the corners it would be much higher up. Winner of the 037 battle, had some chatter in the corners, usually stayed in the slot but wanted to tip now and then. Very noisy and lacked rear grip. Was nice to drive as were all of the others which lacked rear grip. Tried to find a pun for JJJ and Rock and Roll cause the car liked to roll but it's not happening for me. Embs cars were consistent on stage 1, they both liked to tip. Stage 2 and 3 are a whole new ball game. Charles Scaley RS was ok at everything, nothing really wrong just not the best car out there. Meh. Could get into it. Try harder next time...... Very nice, just the right amount of everything. Good one Alexis. A lot of tyre chatter. Its hard not to here as there are so many corners. Get the thing to sit flat and you are in for a good run. GAS41T lacked a bit of Gas (power) but it was nice to drive. As were pretty much all of the MSC's. I want to have this cars child!!! Seriously good car, the boy certainly can tune a car for this stage. Avants ruled this track. To be honest though, when I picked this car up for its heat and saw the large rear tyres, I thought to myself this is not going to be fun. But it somehow allowed itself to drift while putting down heaps of grip. It did actually run a sub 9 second lap in practice as well. Lacked power but seriously consistent which is very hard to be on this track. Puts you right up the order. The final car, like most of the top runners an MSC. This one was fast but a little bouncy in the rear which tended to make it tip. Still fast though. So to the results of stage 1 (still a long way to go) Well done to all. Stage 1 has been put away and stage 2 put back into its place. Will see how things go over the next few days to see what stages I get done.
