Hi All
Am just wondering what are the advantages of having the deeper guides on cars.
I would be looking at doing both ninco and scalextrics cars if they are advantages over the normal that come with the cars.
A further explantion on how they work etc would greatly appreciated from those in the know
Cheers

Probably for about 90% of the time, a deeper guide would mean little, but for that hairy 10% of the time you may be on 2 wheels round a corner the guide can't be deep enough.
As the car goes up on 2 wheels, the guide lifts up, so if you have a shallow guide, it doesn't take much of a wheel lift, and you're off to the wall.

Ninco prorace guides are good value - if you are looking to replace guides

Related question. What needs to be done to drop a pro-race guide into, say, an SCX? Concensus seems to be that SCX guides are fairly average or worse.

major surgery
but seriously - major surgery - because SCX uses metal rails rather than wires from motor to the pickups and the whole pickup system is different to the system used by Ninco and slot.it etc
I am sure someone has done it - I looked at it and went hmm too hard so I shimmed the guide down a little to keep it in the slot and have left it at that for now....

Let me pose a hypothetical question; If a person had a CNC mill and a bit of imagination would there be any interest in an improved SCX guide and/or guide system? Some photos of the problem area may help the hypothetical person.

interesting idea cammer - I read on another forum how some folk were cutting the scx guide off and glueing a Ninco prorace guide on - to give it a longer and deeper guide to help hold rally cars in the slot.

Cammer, hypothetically speaking, it's an interesting proposal.
I've never had a problem with an SCX guide myself. But His Lordship managed to break the 'stopper' on his Moggie before he learned to control it. It hasn't rendered the car un-usable, just means that when it gets pushed too far in the corner and goes beyond the point of no return, the guide rides over the stop point, the spring can not return it to centre and it pops free of contact. There's an audible 'click' as the car 'snaps its neck'. The guide is easily 'reset' with a twist back in the other direction. This has become much less of a problem as HL's learned to control the car.
