Just to let you know that there is a very nasty virus going the rounds. Beware as it's also a money rip off scam. It's called Antivir and it slows things down before eventually blocking your browsers and eating into the bios.

At one point a screen appears offering you a programme to download which will cure the problem. However this is the scam, it doesn't cure anything and you pay over money and credit card details to the scammer.

It seems to appear undetected by most anti virus programmes and removal using Skybot S&D etc is also a waste of time. It's a job for a professional.

Please beware, my son's pc has been in the repair shop for nearly a week now and still no sign of it's return.

I have heard that a program called Malwarebytes will remove most of these type of programs.

Strange name, but I know that it works.

Got one pain in the azz malaware myself through a site called (reviewia) it doesn't mess up things badly but it is a pain to get rid of . Wife thinks it came with a game she downloaded for the daughter ( it was virtual villages I think) . She always downloads into a folder then she scans it before opening it - still got through didn't it . Got rid of it , then she downloaded the same game a day later from another site - got the same problem again ( audio virus / malaware) It keeps running adverts in the background over the speakers . No web page to be viewed on the screen - but its there. It continously opens new internet explorer pages . Looked at the task manager and found 37 IE pages open . not too bad as far as there was no major file damage to speak of - except it is using up my monthly download kb's . Went to this site below and got what I needed to get rid of it . Tried spybot . adware and Trend micro none of them worked .
Im running windows 7 but the site is a microsoft site and has options for other systems XP Vista etcc to choose from . Followed the link to the one you posted wizard I will run that as well a bit later today , never hurts to run something different when ya got them find and seek computer maintenance blues

Hey guys ,just reading your post. My sons went on a site which is part of Face Book called Yoville. All of a sudden if we went on a particular site for info a message would appear to tell us to do a survey on a game and if we didnt do it within 3 mins it would stop us from entering that site again which it did. Following day we were checking out hot water tanks on the Dux site and it did it again. As we didnt do the survey in the 3 mins we were stopped from entering this site . We had to do a virus scan on AVG and it took forever. Since we barred the kids from this Yo ville site ,no probs ,so just be aware.
Cheers Craig

mmmm interesting my wife and daughter go onto that yoville and other facehook games heaps as well . I will warn the wife and daughter about that one . The daughter is only 9 and not bad on a computer , like most 9 year olds these days they don't fear the computer and happily click away at any shiney button that appears on screen. I think I will wait until shes 11 before she does our online tax return
