Last night one of the racers had the dreaded threaded wheel when he has a good set of tyyres tuned in on the hub. He asked me how to re tap the hub. Being the least mechanical person in the solar system I have no idea other than try using the old supergle create your own thread trick like for body posts but i doubt it would work with a metal to metal bond? Does anyone know the correct size drill bit or tecxhnique to create a newly formed hole for an M2 grub screw?

Tapping drill sizes for metric threads is very simple, just subtract the pitch measurement from the diameter for the drill. So for 2mm x 0.4 pitch the drill size is 1.6mm.
I us a 1.5mm drill.

Hi Trev, if its not clear.
You need to mark out and redrill and cut a new thread on the rim. (most rims have two grub screw holes ?)
If the rim has only one hole drill and tap 180 deg from original hole . If two holes originally you may be pushing it but turn and drill 90deg.
You should place rim in vice or clamp. You need to be fairly carefull, go slowly and use a lubricant on the drill and the tap.
The rims are soft and it will not take much to gall up the thread.
Good luck , see you Monday night at Waynes.
