Morning everybody. Just posting to let everyone now the cars have arrived safe and sound for their Round 5 workout. Unfortunately my phone line went down last night so I am typing this form an internet cafe as I have no internet at home. Will run the cars tomorrow for a quick run to get a fell for them and will post my initial thoughts and any problems.
My track is Ferrodor with a light coat of Cabot's clear and has a definite preference for NSR / P6's. MJK's do ok but just not as good. WIll report more once the net becomes live again!

Regards

Track was a little dirty so I cleaned the track, and then ran a few laps with the DUPR 2010 cars. I only ran each car for 15 laps to get a feel for them, and it was obvious that many were getting easier and better as they broke in a little.

FCC 5.262 Excellent car. Close to track record
Newso 5.486 Great runner. Fell away a little after tryes let go
Slittlehales 5.491 Car felt beautiful. Very easy to drive. Gripped the track well
manimal 5.564 Quick car. Excellent braking on the spirit motor. Gears could pose problems in future rounds
Tazraacer 5.604 Went well. Good car.
Suttle 5.621 Car felt good. Well balance and handles well
Dan S 5.696 Handles well. Chatters a little around corners.
obsidith 5.736 smooth and consistent car.
antony 5.806 very quiet and excellent grip. A little underpowered.
sports racer 5.824 Consistent car. Not as highly powered as the others
MarkD 5.834 Smooth, quiet car. Consistent lapper.
lenny broke 5.842 good car lacks a little grip.
Davnic74 5.847 Lots of power, but not as much grip as some of the others.
Hoffy 5.895 Very heavy car. Lacks a little traction.
Ronan 5.969 Very Noisy. Lack of grip.
PMC356 6.029 Taily. Needs more grip. Hard to control
Gzminiz 6.032 Needs more grip. Lots of wheelspin out of corners
XR8 6.406 very bouncy and lacks a bit of grip.

Ok guys, Round 5 of DUPR 2010 will take place this coming Sunday. Depending on the overall condition and sobriety of the drivers and marshalls, the event might be telecast live. Thanks to the SWSRG boys for offering to lend a hand for the event. I will be qualifying the cars on Friday night (will advise if telecast)

John

Thanks for hosting a round and posting the pre race results

Seems my car (pmc356) has progressively got worse, which given this is my first proxy is not surprising. Is there anything I can do to attempt to fix it up so I might learn for next time? Points at this stage for me probably are not a major concern as I'm off the pace :-), but would be keen to learn how to make the car better.
Is it bad tyre choice, lack of weight, other factors?

What's the best way forward for the back markers?

Paul

PMC356 6.029 Taily. Needs more grip. Hard to control

Paul, your car lacks a little grip on my track. As does Eric's. Both are fast but hard to control when cornering. Wife and kids went to bed so I thought I would put in a few practice laps to make sure everything is in order for tomorrow's qualifying and Sunday's round. Mannimal, your car was like a bat out of hell until the 6th lap where she stopped going. The car has stripped the crown gear! I am going to Armchair tomorrow anyway so can pick up another gear (not sure what happens re: penalty or not ERIC?). I gave the cars a 90 second dash around the middle lane of my track. Here are the results of practice

FCC 16.6
Slittlehales 16.4
Newso 15.9
Tazraacer 15.9
Suttle 15.8
Davnic74 15.8
lenny broke 15.4
Dan S 15.3
obsidith 15.3
MarkD 15.3
antony 15.2
sports racer 15.2
Hoffy 15.1
Ronan 15.1
Gzminiz 14.8
PMC356 14.6
XR8 13.1
manimal 5

Round 5 of the DUPR 2010 has been run and won. A special thank you to the SWSRG boys Mel, Gazza, Craig, Mario and Joe. Their help through the day made for a smooth and organised event. The final results are as follows

Posted Image

Manimal, your car gave us a few problems today. During one heat, the guide wire came loose from the motor so you lost significant laps in that heat. In another heat, it lost the guide wire from the eyelet which again caused a significant loss of laps. Hence your overall position in this round. A real shame as it was keeping up with FCC's car quite well until its little mishap!

FCC's car is a rocket. Managed a fastest lap of the proxy at 5.376 which is only a tenth or 2 slower than one of my cars! Great car. Suttle's car was awfully close as well. It is interesting as the many cars seemed overpowered for a home track whilst others lacked a bit of grip. A reasonably cool day in the morning here in Sydney didnt help the cars that were a little loose.

Thanks again for letting me and the SWSRG boys run some laps with your cars. We had an enjoyable morning / afternoon. Photos of the day to come.

Regards

John

Well done Trevor, you win! Thanks for the efforts getting my car up and running for the round, just a pity it didn't want to play the game on the day(insert tears here). Slittlehales car must be creeping up the order after the pre series penalty, i wonder what the best series finish for a penalized car is?

Thanks guys for running the round, hope it was fun and suds!

Thanks for the run and congrats to the other podium guys. I know the rules are already in place for this year and it is not the done thing to change them as you go along but personally i am against the concept of penalties in a proxy race for any type of repair work as the car affected has usually copped a poor round or had mechanical issues anyway. Plus it leaves a bad taste for the guy copping a penalty. Thirdly these are toy cars built by grown men and we do it for fun its not the F1 grand prix for goodness sake. Perhaps we can have a discussion about it before the series next year!

i think if a failure is an ongoing thing then a penalty should apply, which will deter any grenade motors, tyres etc. as luck would have it the wire issues yesterday far outweighed the gear change penalty. so i guess what i'm saying is in this circumstance either way it was a turd sandwich with a side of failure.
As i said in pm to trevor pre series i had an eleventh hour failure in the rear end and did not have the time or parts to fully bring the car to par. i expected the car to get half way through the series and then go bang, i must be psycic! i guess the moral to this story is use nsr parts. I'm not so sure about the crown gears, i know sidecar steve had a bad dream with his for last years series, but the sidewinder and anglewinder gears are great and won me last years series...(not a paid advertisement :o )

(focus changes) - how about next year we run group c???
