I am looking to replace a few sets of rims with aluminum ones but I cam not sure how they are measured. When it says 17x10, what is that in reference too? The rim face x the total width? or is it the total height x the total width?

Also wondering if MJK's work on the NSR air system or is it a bad idea?

So many factors, worried I will get the wrong set. Anything else I need to take into account?

G'Day Eric

17X10 refers to 17=total dia X 10= width
Slot it rims are measured form the outside edge of the rim to the inside edge not including the boss for width. For Diameter it is the overall diameter including the raised section.
I don't know about the NSR/ MJK combo, never used that set up.

Cheers Alan

So my rims on my ninco ford gt are 18.5 ish but the rim face is 17. I need to look for 18mm wheels to suit. Overall width is 10mm. Wish I had a micrometer

Here you go mate , staright from the slot it site click on the link
slot it wheel dimensions
Also Have a look at the wheels and inserts section over at armchair racer. it will give you a good idea of whats around to suit. they also do starter kits with bearings axles, gear sets. wheels and inserts. NSR do similar kits too but I don't use them as much so not sure of range.

No A cheap digital vernier will do all you want and will set you back $20 to $ 30 bucks these days.the

Be careful as not all manufactures measure their wheels that was, some refer to the outside diameter of the rim not the centre section! Some even refer to the scale diameter. ie 15" !

SlotNZ has a spreadsheet with lots of this info on it!

The life of we novices would be so much simpler if things like that got standardised. And I don't mean the actual wheel sizes themselves but just the way they're listed. It's a right minefield out there. Then when you do find wheels matching up tyres is another issue. ;)

Ok. Rant over. Crawling back under blankey now.

Any tyre will work on the NSR wheels if the correct size are used.My opinion the air system wheels
work the best by far.Just make sure you put the right MJK tyre to suit the 17''x10''. ;)

Been looking at tbirds nsr axle kits for my ford gt, fly gt40 and maybe my scx cuda. Got any tips on which ones to get and mjk's to suit? Hehe. Do the rear kits come with pinion too?

I agree with ember. I feel lost and fear buying stuff that won't work. Like the looks of slotting plus America wheels but fear they won't work and the nsr is a whole kit so bonus.

Part number is 4212.This comes with the works. This will suit your fly not sure on the SCX.

Part number 4012 will suit your fly,but it dose not come with a pinion.

All are 17'' wheels but not sure on MJK tryes to suit.

Hi Again Eric
If you have a look at Armchair Racers site and click on the Tyres section you can scroll down to the MJK tyres part and there is some info regarding tyre dimensions that you may find helpful in matching them up to the NSR rims.
I should add that I am not endorsing one retailer over another here but I thought that this info would be of use to GZminiZ and others.

Hi guys, if yo do get your self a cheap vernier caliper set ,most of the tyre manufacturers (should) supply actual dimensions of the tyre / rim size. simply match as needed.

As to using MJK tyres on aero rims, not a problem. I run a couple of cars in this set up.
Chris at Thunder Birds can help if asked to match tyres and rims.

The club we run at is restricted to MJK tyres as a rule.

Good luck

Paul ;)

Paul, it should be that easy, but it's usually not. MJK is the only tyre manufacturer that I've come across that publishes complete dimension references on their tyres. But alas, while they do offer a superior product (yup... I love MJKs even on a plastic track) they do not cater for older style, narrow rims.

Again, I know... My fault for not being a fan of big beefy racers.

Hi Ember
I think you will find MJK do offer narrow tyres, for ninco classic scalex classic, as I suggested to GZ have a look at the MJK tire section on the Armchair site they are all shown fairly clearly with dimensions,
Alan

ps I think it's time you put some numbers on your cars. ;)

Yes, I run MJKs on my Ninco Classics. But... been trying to fit BWA narrow 15s and 13s... They're much more to scale for the types and ages of car on my build list.

And they've all got numbers on them... 3 of them... and 3 letters as well. ;)

I cast narrow 7mm tyres for Ninco and Scalex!
I also think Graeme does as well.
