Hi Guys,
I decided to start a new topic for my track as the one i had previously is now dismantled as i had to move houses of which now i have a big shed to play in. Since pulling apart the old plastic track i have now decided to have a go at doing a routed digital track. It will be SSD as i have spent so much money on chips and upgrading powerbase already. In the last two days i started with some lengths of metal, grinder and welder of which made the base for my table Posted Image
and also with 12mm MDF screwed on Posted ImagePosted Image
I still have to cut down a little bit of another sheet of MDF to fit on the end. The table is 5.1m long and just over 2.4 meters wide which will allow me to do a similar style track to my old plastic one except i will be able to do different radius corners and widen the lane spacing a little bit and have a little bit more room to do it in as this table is bigger than the last one. I hope to start routing in the next couple of weeks will post some more pics once i start

Cheers John

If the track is as good as the base table it will be fantastic, keep the pics coming.
Regards.

Hey John, Nice job so far...

I've currently got my track 4m x 1.7m sitting on a table tennis table for a stable base cause I can't weld & was just wondering what something like that kick arse base setup you've made would cost if I got someone to make one for me? Just ballpark figure u know casuse I have no idea about such things....

Thanks Silver Rocket

For a start i brought 3x8m lengths of 50x25x2.5 RHS which is about $170 i have cut them down so i have 3x5m lengths to run down the outside and middle of the table the remainder was enough to do the 2.4m ends and the middle cross brace, i still needed 3 more cross braces and the legs but i had some old 50x50 SHS and 40x40 sitting around home which completed the job. My work requires me to be able to weld so its pretty handy to have a welder at home to able to use. Besides the MDF the only other cost was 4 hours of my time to get it to the stage of screwing the MDF on. Would definately cost more to get someone else to build it for you.

Cheers John

Yeah mate hope to keep the pics coming regular as im finding this more interesting than putting together the plastic track. Here is what i have got done this weekend of which i didnt get as much time as i would have liked to, it is my first time at routing so you will probably notice ive already bogged up a couple of mistakes. It is the start finish straight and pit lane going into turn 1 leading up to pit exit and first lane change, i havent completed one of the pit straight slots i will do when i get the powerbase setup there, i also need to fix the slots a little on the last radius change on turn one i will do that during the week.Posted Image

Hi John after having a go at digital (Ninco) I hope you are just having straights with no changers up the middle as it will be a stretch marshalling. Good Luck with it :)

Here is a bit of an update on how far i have progressed, i have put a couple of cars out on the track to give you guys a bit of an idea which slots are for running on as there is some routed slots that are for track fencing.
This pic shows probably the best set of corners on the track so far with quite a few radius changesPosted Image

This next pic shows Moffat in the Brut 33 car entering the pits.Posted Image

The next pic Shows Moffat and the Porsche exiting the pits and the other Porsche changing lanes the rest of the cars are coming through turn 1 this was my first attempt at a corner which shows as there is a couple of mistakes fixed up in this corner but i am getting better the further i progress into the trackPosted Image

This next one shows the Porsche still changing lanes while the other cars are going through another cornerPosted Image

I havent started doing any of the digital parts yet as i want to get the track slots routed first before i start routing out for the digital parts.

Cheers John

Good work so far. Planning on using braid or tape? (you probably said somewhere, but I was distracted)

Brisbane,shed,uninsulated,
I would certainly have another look at the cost of braid. It will be worth the cost.

My shed down here in Tassie get to over 40 during the summer. The tape on the old track lifted all the time during summer.

Yeah i know about sheds and copper tape i will be fully insulating the shed eventually once the track is running and also the shed is covered by alot of trees so it does not cop the full wrath of the sun and during last summer it wasnt much different from being in the house as i spend most of my free time in the shed doing sim racing on the computer. One thing i cant stop is the humidity though. I know it wont solve all the lifting. For the moment i will have to go with copper tape as the missus just wont let me include Braid in the budget if only i could convince her that the track was part of doing up the house and shed.

I got a little bit done this weekend here is a couple of picsPosted ImagePosted Image
All of the blocks underneath the raised section will be hidden once i start on the scenery. Most of the remaining sections of the track are raised so there is still alot of work in front of me before i even get close to putting any paint to the track. I have also completed the Digital Pit Lane Flipper as it needed to be done before the raised track went over the top, i dont have a clear pic of this yet.
