Best Way To Press New Pinion Onto A Boxer Motor

Any advice appreciated. Whats the best/safest way to press a pinion onto a new boxer motor without putting undue pressure on the internals or distort can using a typical (in this case Ninco) gear puller?
Normally I use motors where shaft is at both ends

I made up (can't find to snapshot) a small block of wood, which had a hole drilled part way through on one side, to accept the protrusion at the back of a can.
I glued a bit of metal to the other side, so the Ninco pressing shaft didn't push through the wood.
I'd pop that over the back of the motor, so that the pressure was against the whole back end of the can, and most importantly, against the side walls which are perpendicular to the surface of the wood. The "hole" in the wood means that there is no pressure against that protrusion in the centre of the back end of the motor.
cheers

and while I think of it . . . . did you get your digital wood track done mate???? I don't recall seeing any pics or video.... [insert smiley for a kick up the jacksie]

In my opinion spend some money on the best pinion press on the market by MB SLOT
Here's some photo's of the press.
The 2 plates move,2nd plate locates the pinion on the shaft, when you wind down the top plate it presses the pinion through a locating hole. This works perfect, no bent pinions,no pressure.

This picture shows the clearance the motor tabs have when in the press.

This tool is a must. The MB SLOT pinion puller

The best thing about this tool is if your motors are glued in and you cant get them out. This pinion puller
is great while the motor is still in.Works well on angle and side winder cars.

Hard to compare but I reviewed it HERE and I think it is great quality for the price and works very well. There is a change to the brass centre now which has more varied attachments.
My concern is the SCX 4x4 motors as I am unable to press new pinion gears on at the moment and I would like a press that is able to do this

We race SCX 4X4 extensively down here, and one fix you might like to try is to use a brass pinion on the rear diff and a nylon scaley pinion on the front ( drop of glue optional ). Works a treat, and gives a smooooth mesh.
