Hi All
Well here we are at last heading into the final round of the series, at my track, Norton Hill.

I have to be up front first in that the timing system is not yet working due to a problem connecting the interface to the track, or rather my inability to get it right, this should be sorted by thursday night so we can have things running for the weekend.

The programme will be as follows
Tonight (Tuesday)- I'll be going over all the cars checking for any problems, clean and straighten briads, lubricate the bits that need it and carry out any minor repairs as required.
Wednesday- An untimed test run for each car to make sure that they run Ok and give some driving impressions
Friday - A timed prologue of around a minute per car to seed the cars running order.
Saturday - Stage 1 of 4 mins per car.
Sunday - Stage 2 of 4 mins per car, reversed order of seeded prologue order.

I'll post some pics of the track later tonight so you can see what the cars are up against.

Cheers Alan

Hi All
I've just done a quick visual inspection of each car and cleaned and straightened braid and lubed the bits I could get to without pulling the bodies off.
here's a list of the problem kiddies

OTFS Ok but removed a couple of bits of cotton thread from around the rear axle.

Stig braid disintergrated when I straightened it out on one side, will replace

Ronan OK but missing wheel insert when removed from box, Do anyone of the other host know where it could be??

Gazza Braid worn but should see out round

Triggy one braid a bit iffy but should see out round as well

Davenic74 Braid disintergrated when straightened will replace

Yngwie Crown wheel stripped. I will fit a loaner for this round. can you remember the ratio John?? The reason the CW stripped I think was that as you used a NC2 with short armature shaft so the CW had no positive fixing ( the shaft didn't extend into CW hub groove) and had side play and could have slipped out of mesh. I'll fit a spacer between the back of CW and rear bearing that should limit side play.

Stig and Davenic 74 look to have Ninco pro braid fitted, very soft. I have some spare ones I can fit before we start.

Cheers Alan

Lenny thank , much appreciated, the Ninco braid is very soft, checked then when the cars were here and thought they would do the final couple of rounds. Must remember to use different braid next year.

Thanks Alan. Not sure of the ratio on that car, but it was probably a 9:27. I will send over a spare crown in the mail early next week!

Hi Guys
I've just done a test run of all the cars for approximately one minute each to get a feel for them before the start of competition and give some comments on each of them. no times taken as the timing system isn't running yet.

1 Hoffy SA - Nice and Smooth, easy to drive. good power
2 Ben M NSW- Nice car but a bit down on power
3 Devious Dave NSW - Smooth but hard to keep up momnetum maybe heavy weight is cause
4 Old Slot NSW - A bit overpowered and top heavy, hit the scenery a few times
5 OTFS NSW - reasonably smooth but slight hop in corners under power NC1 might be a bit underpowered here
6 Teamredracer NSW - good pace but shudders in corners
7 The Stig Tas - lots of power from NC2 but struggled for grip on chalk board paint surface
8 Munter NZ- motor felts a bit light switch like. a bit sudden tended to tip often.
9 Ronan Ire - Reasonably quick but need to be gentle with throttle hops if given some "welly"
10 Lenny Broke SA- - Fantastic car can't understand why it's not further up the points order :)
11 ESPSIX Vic - Smooth , easy to drive
12 Silver Rocket WA - Bounces everywhere, probably due to wonky back wheel that has be glue on to axle several times
13 Gazza NSW - Very fast , may be too fast
14 Obsidith Vic - Quick bur Hi Cof G may hurt performance in official runs
15 Triggy SA - Nice car to drive but a bit tailymening its catching the rear corners on scenery and costing some time
16 Smallnails Tas _ Fast and Smooth but lost LHR wheel in hair pin 3 times. split hub the cause. will attempt a repair tonight.
18 FCC SA - Car lived up to owners forum name fast in straight line but tends to hurl itself at scenery at first sight of corner
19 Mexico NSW - not fastest car in field and a bit slidy but didn't deslot, could finish well this round
20 Phil K Tas - quick, has good grip from tyres.
21 Davenic74 Vic - Quick car but snags rear corners on scenery in bends
22 John Schoen NL- Seems abit short on brakes and lacks grip
23 Anthony NSW - Hard to get this car moving out of slower corners ,High Cof G and narrow track not helping handling
24 Yngwie NSW - Fitted replacement CW runs smoothly but car wants to bounce a bit in corners and fall over
25 Tazracer Tas - not real fast but feel it could run consistently to gain reasonable result
26 Tom and Cam SA - also not the fastest but stays in slot, should go well
27 BRK 12345 SA - Smooth and consistent here this car surprised me after seeing how it went in early rounds here
28 356speedster NO - quick car does not deslot easy but wants to whip sideways and snag in slot
29 Suttle SA - fast but not easy to drive smoothly, a bit jerky.
30 Blue 95 NSW - drives fairly consistently but rear tires are letting it down
34 Mannimal Vic - Quick but a bit inconsistent to drive.

Something that did stand out for me was the narrow tracked car with NC2 motors fitted. I reckon that the weight of the long can motors didn't help with the "tippyness" of these cars where as the wider cars like the 911 porshes were not affected.

Hopefully the timing will be up and running tomorrow night and ready for the prologue on Friday night.

If any of the local entries want to come over for a look over the weekend please let me know and I'll pm the address. I'll warn you that it's way out in the Wild West here so you good ole' Southern Boys might need the packed lunch and compass thing to get here.

Cheers Alan
ps I'm getting a bit weary right now, so I will do some pics tomorrow.
if you want a look at the track here' s a link to the construction thread I started a while back to give you an idea what the track looks like

G'Day Shane, to be honest I couldn't really say as the tracks are very different animals. Norton Hill is a short twisty rally track where as the ferridore tracks are more open race circuit style. Also the rally track is still a bit green and doesn't have a lot of rubber down, though it does fell less abrasive to the tough that the ferrodore. I'm planning to build a small 3 lane race circuit soon so I may do the chalk board surface on that one.

Yes your more than welcome to come over for a look. I'll PM you the address and time details once I've finalised when my helpers are available.

Hi Ya Rick
No not yet hopefully tonight as long as the Techo Bloke that's fitting it up is finished repainting all those limited edition very rare. only 2 or 7 in the world, collectors edition Lone Ranger Mustangs that he hopes to sell on G-Bay.

Hi Brad
the hub is split either side but still all in one piece. I've superglued it back on the axle so it should get through the round.

Hi Guys
Just a quick note to say that the timing system is a goer and we will be running the Prologue tomorrow night. I didn't run any of the proxy cars as the track was a bit dusty after we had made some changes to the sensor strip location, but I did run one of my own cars, a SCX fiat spyder that lapped in the low to middle 9 sec bracket with a best of 8.919. this probably ain't the fastest car and the track was a bit slippery so I expect the faster cars to be lapping in the mid to high eight second bracket tomorrow night.
Thanks to Rick for coming down and sorting the interface install for me and Hoffy for the program set up over the phone.
Hoffy and I will be doing the Prologue from about 7.30 central time tommorroew night but we won't have any live update, sorry. as soon as we have the results I'll post on this thread.

re the erratic behavior of mine Alan, the brm's fitted need to be clean to reach their full potential, and i find they pick up mjk dust which means even after cleaning they still can struggle - one for next year, should have gone for those evil ortmanns...

Hi All
The prologue has been run and there is a bit of a shake up in the order of things this time with some unexpected results on the board.
The format was 8 laps of Norton Hill, the running order being decided by positions in the points table, with P1. (Stig) starting proceedings tonight.
Unfortunately for some of the lead cars this mean't the track and the driver (me) may not have been up to optimal performance and their times suffered somewhat, sorry guys. The prologue times will not count toward the final result.
Posted Image
Fastest prologue time (OFTS) will lead off proceedings tomorrow afternoon for Stage 1 of 28 laps.
Stage 2 of 28 laps will be run Sunday afternoon in reverse direction to stage 1 with the running order the reverse of the prologue result.
We should be starting things around 1.30pm SA time both days.
Thanks to Hoffy for doing the inputs on the pute and running the show tonight. also thanks for doing the pics as well.

Cheers Alan
