Hi guys I am looking for some advice on what material ro use for or best way to include a ripple strip on the new track I am building. It will get the usual red and white striping treatment but do I just paint it flat onto the track surface which is time consuming and messy or does anyone know of a low profile marial that can be painted away from the track and then layed into place and or is bendable perhaps?

Regards,

Not for everyone, but I used double sided tape to lay down the white part and then cut red vinyl tape in equal strips and did that around the white bits.

Sorry dont have a photo but it looked quite good.

I tried 2mm balsa from the hobby shop, cut into 2.5cm squares and slightly overlapping each other to get a ripple strip effect. Each square painted alternate colours. Looked good but I layed them too close to the track. At first the cars went over them great, ripple effect bumps, but being balsa the edges wore off and ended up with white tops. Probably work better if laid more to the inside of the track or used a gloss car enamel paint.

I used 3mm mdf, cut to shape and sanded to profile:

I use rubber carpet edging which is curved in profile and can be bent around corners, (I got mine from Bunnings)

I used the old hot glue gun to attach to the track and also painted it red and white once on the track with masking, etc.

Looks great and works excellently.

I masked off the curbing area, painted it white.

I then put strips of painters masking tape .5 inches wide across the white and painted the red on.

It's not real curbing but from trackside, you cant really tell.

quick and easy.

I used joinery T mould very much the same as what manic35 used. I got some white so I only had half the painting to do. Some of it is attached using the t section into a slot in the MDF others are just hot melted on.

2mm balsa, edges sanded to a round/champher profile. Two coats of white paint, lightly draw 1cm squares and paint with two coats of red craft paint. Most are PVA'd and some are super glued into place.

Perro,

Are you using plastic track or routing?

I only ask because if routed keep the strip flat and just use paint. Then you can paint the strips so that half a front wheel goes over the strip in the inside of the turns. After track rubbers up it makes it look more realist.
Outside the box looking in.

Thanks to everyone for all the great ideas. I am going to give a few of them a go on a trial piece of board to see how things go and I will let you know which way I end up going on the actual track when I get that done. Happy Easter to you all and thanks again guys.

Regards,

Perro
