I'm looking at the H & R racing chasis on the Professor Motor site and I'm tempted to get one. They're $43.50 US which seems like good value with a great set of racing wheels (21mm wide in Foam or 18 mm wide in Silicon). A lot of the other metal chassis (Plafit etc) are over $100 and you get standard thin wheels/tyres that would need to be upgraded for racing.

One disadvantage is the height is not adjustable like a Plafit but is that a big drama?

Anyone have one of these babies?

Looks like a pretty basic stamped brass sheet chassis to me. Why not support a local supplier and buy a MJK Engineering chassis. We use this chassis in our 1/25 Trans Am racing series and they are great units.

Hi Rick
I like most folk I would be happy to support local suppliers. However I haven't found a lot of info out there on the web about the MJK chassis. Their website has a PDF which list a few numbers and a description of some 1/24 chassis - no prices, pics or more info of what is needed to make a RTR chassis.

I did see a MJK chassis at the slot shop for $35 I think. But I have no idea how much a RTR chassis like photo above would cost, and I am not sure what parts are available to put on it. Can you share some info on wheels, motors, tyres, gears etc.. What do you buy for these 1/25 cars and where from?

cheers

Steve, some time ago, I bought a pair of these...wasn't overly impressed with the quality or workmanship. On both chassis, the soldered joints on the reinforcing rod on the motor mount broke.....and I was running them on a fairly low speed track so there were no high speed impacts.
I don't know what the MJK units are like but based on Rick's comments, they can't be much worse.
If someone has a pic of an MJK chassis, how about posting it?

Hi Steve,

Ive built a couple of cars with the H&R chassis. They are great. Im a fan. If you want a chassis with all the bells & whistles it is not the chassis for you. No flexi, bendy fancy bits just a basis adjustable chassis that is great value for money. What I like about them is they will fit almost any car you are building & they are easy to modify.

A few things that I recommend. The Complete RTR chassis HRCH01 comes with the lightning motor which is 40k rpm. If you are running on a large track that may be a good motor, but for home use I replaced the motor with a H&R Hawk motor which is 18k & is perfect for small tracks. The rear wheels & tyres are 16mm wide & are quitewide. Depending on what you are building but alot of people run with the front wheels all round which are 12mm. I run the fronts all round for my vintage nascars & transams.

If you go to www.slotcarplace.com Gene will sort you out. His RTR chassis are $39.95 or pay $47.00 & you can mix & match all H&R parts to make what ever config you want, motors, tyres etc. H&R now have urethane tyres, silicone, foam, rubber & fish foam tyres to choose from in all different sizes.

Rick recommended MJK. Yes they are great chassis & parts. I would have to say they are alot better quality than H&R but they are roughly twice the price. PM me & ill give you a contact at MJK & he can custom make a running chassis for you depending on what you want. Just let him know what you are building & what you want. MJK can supply a complete chassis including inserts, drivers etc. Its a shame you cant rock into your local slotstore & them not have the full range of MJK. I was totally unaware of all there great products they produce.

Try both brands over time & see what you like. Im in the middle & it depends what Im building. Have a look in the scratchbuild section or 1/24 section for my General lee & 41 historic coupe, they have H&R. Look for my dodge challenger posey that has full MJK.

If you need more info let me know
Thanks
Greg

H&R - both painted black. I added in brass front & rear brass bumpers to the 41 coupe

The brass rod reinforcing rod broke on one of my H&R but I just resoldered it. Problem solved.
Thanks

DM,

Are you trying to build a 1/32 or 1/24 scale car? MJK make a range of chassis, wheels tyres, gears, bearings etc. Try PMing BMR (Steve) I always forget what part number is what, I think he has a catalogue. If you tell him you want to build a XX car he'll tell you what part numbers you'll need.

Pretty sure Patto carries the range of parts and also does a started kit for more the more common projects.

Rick

1/25 - I picked up a 1970 Charger and Supra kit for $8 each at Toys-R-Us a little while ago - thought they might make fun slot cars.. the charger might stay a street car (my son picked it) the Supra I may make into a JGTC type car maybe a fantasy Minolta livery :)
Posted ImagePosted Image

given I have only invested $16 + 10 for paint and glue so far - I wasn't looking at putting them on $100+ ea. chassis... still I guess if that is the going rate then I might need to consider something like the plastic chassis shown here http://homeracingwor...com/topic/19904
but I still need to find a source of wheels, tyres gears etc... I note he is using H&R gear.

Am really only looking for cars to drive not race competitively

the appeal about the chassis above is it is RTR - I only need to decide what tyres I want... though I note Greg suggested a less powerful motor

cheers

Check this out. With the OZ dollar OK at the moment this could be worth considering.

This is on the NCPHOBBIES website. I have dealt with this business and they were OK.

Don't know if anyone in OZ stocks these.

If you try my website you will find I am cheaper than most on my prices and postage. My website is slightly out of date with it's tyre range but the prices are as listed .I am due to redo it with more pictures of the 1/32 chassis
