I'm pleased to inform everyone that Round 8 will commence sunday and be completed by monday.

Cars are nicely parked in the Taz Den ready to rumble.

The finishing touches to the new track are being worked on at the moment, wiring complete later this afternoon when the head technician gets in from work, with test running tonight or in the morning.

Suppose no rubber is better than running it in on silicone tyres or WD40. :P

See the top part of the little island is getting some rain at present so maybe the creek through the causeway is flooded :)

Running is underway, after technical glitches, rain storms and general pestilence.

The water bath couldn't be commissioned, the WD40 made it wayyyyy toooo oily!!!!

Will post pics and first results tonight, rest tomorrow night.

For those inexperienced with proxy car set ups, this is the best learning curve you can have, just seeing how some of these are running is unbelievable. However, tyres are proving on this track to be critical. More later.

Okay

It's over....at last.....but I'm not posting the winners just yet, just the results of the first two of the three stages.

The new TazRally park was opened on Sunday and as it is a new track about 1000 laps were put down to rubber up the track (love the slotit controller). Final landscaping was not complete as it is going to take a bit more time due to the modular design of the track.

Posted Image

Smallnails and Ado came over on monday to run the first two stages, and thanks to those guys, great effort. Each car ran for three minutes per stage and it soon became clear there is a definite gap between the better runners and the rest. But it was close at the top.

Posted Image

Before we ran stage three a concourse judging was conducted by the fairer half that frequents the Taz Den and came up with these three well presented little rippers.

Posted Image

Final results will be added a little later this evening, as they have been checked and rechecked it's so tight at the top. Less than 1/2 a lap seperating the first three.

We have a winner !! AND A TIE FOR SECOND......

Posted Image

Congrats to those on the podium, it was tight all the way. The Stig in the middle flanked by the tied second place getters, Phil (L) and Smallnails ®.

Just a note on the cars. The top five or six were all well set up, good weight distribution, true wheels and tyres and body movement. The cars from about 10 and below all had some sort of issue (including mine) that held them back. Some were binding on the front wheel when cornering making them tippy, others were simply underpowewered and therefore didn't have enough snap out of the corners. Some didn't have any body movement at all which made them bouncy when they broke traction cornering. I was surprised at how many cars didn't have the rear tyres glued on, and how many didn't have smooth front tyres painted with something like nail polish to reduce friction with the track.

I think the rubber tyres may heve been disadvantaged in respect of keeping the tyres clean (I taped all the cars tyres before running) and some biult up a lot of loose rubber that badly affected traction.

Thanks for letting me do the proxy again, my apologies for the delay in posting results etc, but it is good to do and i suggest anyone with a rally track host a round as the tuning of some of these cars is something worth aiming for.

PS-the results have been checked from those saved on the computer (I run trackmate) and those that were concurrently written down, to try and find a seperation between the second place runners.

Thanks Brian and the Launceston gang for your efforts this round. I know things were tight in getting your track up and running.
well done to the podium getters, another tassie trifecta
on a personal note I'm about to start work at the Clipsal 500 for the next 4 days my days will be taken up totally with that till next Monday.
I will try to get online during this time to update scores and any other housekeeping stuff but may not be able to do so very promptly. please be patient.
Cheers Alan

Thanks for the effort Brian, I know it has been a big effort to get ready. Great result, thought those Porsches would run away on the more open track.

What can I say BUT thanks to Tazracer,Smallnails and Ado for driving my car to another win. I am wrapped especially after Phil told be that my car had little grip up there!

I have to agree about that sweet Renault Alpine it looks great just a shame about the NO GRIP rear tyres.

John: Your car is good Just very bad choice of tyres! The weight and balance seemed fine, if my round had been the last I would have talked to you about a test with differet tyres.

I like to have the last round of proxies here as it often allows me to re test some cars that have a problem that can easily be sorted and the feed back sent to the entrants.

What tyres are on the car?
