Hey guys. I have an SCX Ferrari 550 which goes quite well. Upon giving the motor a blast the gears are super quiet. However, once I let go of the trigger and take the power off there is this shudder of the car under brakes. Despite the quiet operation under acceleration is this shuddering still poor gear mesh?

BtW, I have replaced the SCX pinion for a Slot.it one.

Regards

John

I had mesh issues with slot.it pinion and scx pro gear. I would try a slot.it running gear. not 100% if there is a difference in pitch or not.

Turn your brakes back to a softer setting....if you have adjustable brakes.

I agree with munter and also a little weight over the back wheels can help

Good call, I run a fair bit of brake with all my Nascars and they will tend to shutter alot more then when the brake is wound down, I just like it with more brake so I stick it out. One of those horses for courses kinda things.
I'm gonna give you an engine low to the ground... extra thick oil pan to cut the wind from underneath you. It'll give you thirty or forty more horsepower. I'm gonna give you a fuel line that'll hold an extra gallon of gas. I'm gonna shave half an inch off you and shape you like a bullet. I'll get you primed, painted and weighed, and you'll be ready to go out on that racetrack. Hear me? You're gonna be perfect!

Too much brake. Try changing the crown to a 25T. The brakes will be smoother, youll have more top end and the lap times will tumble.

Problem is gearing has to remain the same in our class of racing.

Yeah I have the weight well set on the car and it is smooth out of corners and on straights just the little shudder approaching a corner. Will back of brakes a little but might have to put up with it as like lu05ke, I like full breaks on the SCX cars as they are good at it!

Almost none. I have done the super glue trick so it is quite good in that respect.

Your lap times will drop 2 tenths by backing off the brakes. I use a rotary switch with the first position being a diode and then followed by 1 ohm resistors. Works a treat. Can you really afford to drop 2/10th of a second to your competitors? Fit a brake rotary switch to your controller. Just cut the brake wire from the controller and fit a rotary switch in there.

Hi john
Most of my South City raceway fleet are SCX with RX42B . I prefer to run no brakes on our tracks so wind the brake pot right off.
also if yoo are using slot it crown wheels I find that the standard 9T scx pinion meshed up quite nicely to the slot it crown wheels.

I have a SLot.it controller Rick so do have adjustable brakes. Thanks Lenny, Have not tried changing the crown, but have changed the pinion. Might change to the Slot.it crown and see what difference that makes!

Lots I think you'll find.
Replace the whole rear end. I've replaced the gimble bearings too, for the SCX pro examples. 2 pair for about 5 bucks from memory. they have less float than the standrd ones when using slot it axles. I'd recommend a starter kit but slot it only do the 27 t crown wheel with plastic wheels for some reason.
