hey guys. just noticed my Big Red Scaley Camaro has a motor shaft which moved through the motor a little. Is this motor now designated for the bin or is there something I can do to retrieve it to a usable motor?

Regards

John

Hi John
It is unlikely that the shaft has moved through the armature stack without a shove from a hammer but often scaley motors have a lot of end to end play.
This is usually(badly) controlled by the flange on the pinion.
Try using a flat bladed screwdriver to lever or push the pinion into a better position.

If what I'm saying is old news and I'm talking through a hole in my head then maybe you do have a duff motor.
In todays world that wouldn't surprise me.

John

I have found loose motor shafts over the years! One on a Parma motor and two on S cans so It can happen, just not very often.

He has shy witnesses to come forward too Rick. They should testify to the results even though they might be a little sheepish about the whole thing.

Dave we mean the shaft moving in the armature stack, not just movement in the can.

I have ditched the motor. Shame too as it was a quick one until it just let go.

John,
If the motor is a recent purchase then you have reason for returning it to the retailer....that shouldn't happen.

i've never, ever, ever seen a shaft sloppy in the stack (although i would'nt put it passed a chinese product).
I've seen a loose comutator, but usually only after a timing job!

forward and aft armature movement can be fixed by opening the motor and adding armature shaft spacers.
if you're not allowed to take the motor apart, try adding a large spacer on the outside of the shaft infront of the pinion.

Parma had a batch about 13 years ago and I have had 2 S cans with similar problems since.
