Gday guys. Mel came around today and brought with him a late Chrissy present: his old rally track. After spending a ¨little¨ while trying to get the thing going we finally managed after the very last attempt.

After Mel left I thought I had better get some miles on the old gal so went down and filmed a few laps in a Czech taxi.

Man this rallying is so much fun.

Just a note on the track. This track will really reward a well setup car. There are 2 spots where the cars need to have their wits about them to make it through to the other side. I have 8 rally cars and the only ones which really took well to the track were the SCX Skoda and SCX Citroen. I take delivery of the cars tomorrow and might give them a quick inspection and a run each for a few laps to see how they go.

Will run the first stage on Wednesday. Second stage on Thursday and the Final endurance stage on Friday.

Will post general impressions after this.

Regards
John

Well, John picked up the cars today so he should be giving them the once over tonight or tomorrow. I also wish to say thanks to you all for your patience with my problems and particularly to John for taking over this round. For the Sydney boys, I'll say that I'll be at all the rounds this year but don't hold your breath as anything can happen from now on.

Cheers
Stu

Went down to the garage to get acquainted with the cars this evening. Completed 10 laps with all cars (except for OTFS and Oldslots) and the results below show the best laps recorded for each car

Stig 7.011
Smallnails 7.058
Davnic 7.203
Phil K 7.292
Gazza 7.294
Devious 7.344
Lenny Broke 7.424
Ronan 7.461
Triggy 7.464
Hoffy 7.504
Blue95 7.505
Tom & Cam 7.508
356 Speedster 7.559
Suttle 7.562
Manimal 7.581
Mexico 7.681
John Schoen 7.732
ESPIX 7.771
Yngwie 7.8
Antony 7.849
Tazracer 7.881
Obsidith 8.008
Teamred 8.038
Munter 8.21
BRK12345 8.62
BenM 8.629
First Corner Crash 9.563
Silver Rocket 10.892
OTFS Seems your gears are binding. Didnt have a chance to open her up but will do tomorrow
Old Slot The guide on the end of your drop arm is really tight. This means your car will not go around corners on this track well, if at all on some corners. Like Mel's, didnt have time to really look at it for too long. Will do tomorrow.

Overall, the cars are coping quite well. It does seem to be a track well suited to the shorter, wider cars particularly. The Porsches are looking good especially.

The longer cars (Audi Quattro's and Lancia's) are struggling on certain parts of the track. The "Bat Out of Hell" cave has claimed many victims.

Anyway, time for bed!

Regards

John

Stig - this car is super smooth. Takes the corners of this track with ease. Almost a symbiotic relationship with the track. Look forward to running this car again. (May get lost in the mail Stig!!! :D :P )
Smallnails - this car is consistent. However, there is one section on the track entering the "Bat out of hell cave" where the front guard catches the wall. Needs to be taken carefully around this corner which could affect its overall times
Davnic - excellent car. Another from the Porsche stable. Should be one of the front markers
Phil K - surprisingly quick considering it a tallish car. Loved the track.
Gazza - had the most fun driving this car. Quick, smooth and never, ever deslotted.
Devious - good car. Just a little on the big side which gives it problems around certain tight sections. The weight keeps it firmly planted.
Lenny Broke - nice easy car to drive. For a longish car it is working around this track well.
Ronan - wheel insert came off after 3 laps but the car is still quiet nice to drive. Not as heavy as the other Porsches so has a little problem around "Bat Out of Hell Cave"
Triggy - nice car. same problems as all the bigger cars. Enjoyable to drive.
Hoffy - car has proved consistent. No deslots.
Blue95 - not too bad. One of the good long cars
Tom & Cam - this car lacks a little grunt but is super smooth. No fear of it coming off.
356 Speedster - this car is a little too wide for the track. Catches the walls in some corners, particularly the extended mud guards. Looks fantastic.
Suttle - love the drop arm. Working ok so far. Time will tell.
Manimal - good car. no problem deslotting just slow around the tighter corners
Mexico - fairly good. "Bat out of hell" cave loves eating this car up though.
John Schoen - love this car. Looks fantastic. Just a little too much horespower for this tight twisty track!
ESPIX - consistent. completed laps with little fuss
Yngwie - if this car were a racehorse we would have put it down ages ago. Just too top heavy for the constant turning. Will learn next time
Antony - nice looking car. Just a little to much motor. Bit twitchy to drive
Tazracer - a nervous little car. takes the corners with much trepidation.
Obsidith - car is consistent in completing its laps in the approximate same lap time.
Teamred - has problems with "Bat out of hell" cave and the front corner. Guide seems to jam in the slot. Takes a little effort to flick around the corner and then a touch too much and she pops straight out
Munter - same as Tazracer, car is nervous, like a teenage virgin on a date with Tommy Lee!
BRK12345 - car had many parts of the track where it struggled to go around the corner.
BenM - same as BRK1234
First Corner Crash - got to the first corner and crashed. Like my car, a little top heavy.
Silver Rocket - similar to FCC.

Am planning to run a stage this afternoon / tonight. WIll post results and pics as soon as the stage is complete.

Regards

John

Blame Gazza for this corner. "Grab a 1L tin of paint and draw a curve around that for a few corners" he said. There are three in the track but two are only part of the corner where the "Bat out of hell" corner is an acute angle. The driver has to brake going into the corner to hang the back out and then full throttle. I love it!

Being the end of that years proxy, this track was too much for some of the Fords. Another SA car limping home.

Results for stage 1 are in.

Overall most cars were ok but those that were not suited to this track let me know in no uncertain terms. Most that had problems had them on the exit at Bat out of Hell cave. TeamRed´s car was the only car to have a problem on the entry to the long uphill straight. Some cars find the severe left to right a real problem.

As is evidenced by Stig and Davnic´s time differential, the next stage will be crucial for overall line honours. Gazza´s car is slowly hunting them down though so should be interesting rallying over the course of the next day or two. I have a day in-lieu from work tomorrow so might run another stage tomorrow.

Will be doing a little 3 or so lap video on some of the cars and post it on youtube.

Its a shame the Skoda wasnt eligible because it makes the BMW look like a brick with wheels. Thanks Mel for the track. Having a ball!

Cant wait for the next proxy series so I can test the car I build before I stick a stamp on it and hope for the best!
