Almost time for the next (5th) round of the Ozrally Proxy Series for 2009/10

This round is at Posted Image

The track (main road section) is a scale version of the famous Mt Panorama. It has been built near the infamous Salt Pan Creek hence the name Mt Salt Panorama
Posted Image
This Rally track is quite unique as it a Rally X circuit with 27 meters of Tarmac Ferrodore and 24 meters of dirt (Tuscan Acrylic Paint) - all sufficient grip and slide.
History and track build
The Tarmac section has times of around 13 seconds and the Dirt section takes about 20 seconds. All up a good lap "could" be under 30 seconds.

Being a new track there has not been a variety of cars on the track so TeamRed, Yngwie and myself run all the cars around for some laps to observe their performances etc.

To do a final sweep I run some of my earlier Proxy Rally cars and I have to say I wish either one was my entry.

2008/9
Posted Image

Also checked the high speed tarmac with a good 'ole Holden tackling the "Chase" while the proxy cars were waiting in the marshaling paddock
Posted Image

Thought we would also test the hump with a non proxy car (this one didn't make it around the next corner)
Posted Image

Had a protester stopping the Irish car from going onto the track
Posted Image

Two corners were a concern for cars that were not well balanced
Bottom of Conrod straight and the left hander with a hump at the top of the mountain
Posted Image

These are the observations during some hot laps and they refer to the cars performance on this track.
We also found the cars performed faster/slower with temperature and humidity changes (up to 1.5 second/30 sec lap)
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

All being well we will run stage 1 Monday night
Stage 2 Tue or Wed
Stage 3 Thursday

A clip to get you into the mood Dirt and Tarmac

Good luck everyone

Love the track Mel! Hope my car gets past that pesky Mexican guy though! LOL!

Shame the crown gear on my car seems to have a problem, it's a slot.it part. Oh well, if it disintegrates then I'll cover the cost of a replacement if possible and take a penalty.

Still think it's a good looking car though!

No sign of wear yet! - it's just that we could hear it biting hard on the throttle

Great report Mel, I know how much time it takes to do all this, so well done to you and the helpers. Your track with the scenery looks fantastic.

Your not wrong guys - helps being on hol's. Lot more to do with the scenery and general bits a pieces Triggy - but from here on I'll just work on small areas as projects

We are on raw Ferrodor tonight - do we have your permission to give it some stick?

Your car is out on a warm up lap now but the driver keeps stopping at the local farmers market!!

Will have some results soon (still going) but an interruption with Team Mexico. These guys keep playing weird music

Back soon - stay tuned

Here we go - 1st stage round 5
Mountain Sprint - Mt Salt Panorama's answer to the Bathurst Shoot Out
This will be 8 laps on one lane of the Tarmac section - 13.5 meters of the 51 meter Rally X circuit

Still a couple of cars to go and already there has been a shake up. Some of the big guns are struggling with speed/handling.

Some of the cars ready in the holding paddock with their pit girls
Posted Image

Not sure about Devious's girl. You could get ring barked Dave!
Posted Image

Yngwie is over helping with this stage - he was doing better lap times than me and the 'ole war wound leg is playing up so he is giving your car the best shot
He will run all cars for the 8 laps with Craig or myself doing a few warm up laps first.

One of the 1st cars out - Hoffy doing it nicely through the soon to be renamed the Caltex Chase. Chevrolet Chase or in short "Chevvy Chase"
Posted Image

Munter even got some air going over the slight hump up Mountain Straight
Posted Image

Davnic a liitle bit sideways in the right hander at the end of Mountain Straight
Posted Image

Stigs car approaching the left hand off camber with a hump at the top of the mountain. Had to big offs on this corner <_<
Posted Image

OK - the results of Stage 1 - "Mountain Sprint"
Posted ImagePosted Image

Congratulations to the stage winners.

Next Stage - Tomorrow or Wednesday
Big thanks to Yngwie for driving, Craig for marshalling and Jeanette for much of the scenery, food, marshalling and pics:lbluebounce:

Now off to shut some eye!

Thanks Viv. By the way seen you in the crowd somewhere.
Won't be so fast with reporting on the next round. Run it this morning making use of two egar neighbours (soon to be slotters).

Some different winners (I think) Track was cold this morning. The rally section is a bit quicker in warm (30deg) temperature. Anyway not able to dump the SRM figures so have to do it manually.

Will post later this afternoon.
