sidecar steve
I finally had a chance to get down to the business of scrutineering, running the cars for a first impression and photographing them before the battle begins. Having given them all a brisk 10 laps or so, I reckon that this is gonna be a very close series. The spec sheets for each car are as close as I could sort out from the emails, etc...If there is anything missing or wrong in the description of your car, please PM me and I'll update it. There are 26 confirmed entries and here are the first 14 in order of entry fee received. MOPARDEVIL Camaro, Slot.it chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, Slot.it wood track guide, inline Slot.it 25k motor gearing 9/27. Very nice well balanced car and super smooth. Great body work and sits nicely on the track. TERRY Audi 90, SCX chassis, Ninco Pro wheels, NSR tyres TSRF guide, sidewinder Slot.it 25k motor gearing 11/34. This is the widest car in the field at 70mm exactly. Super smooth and very easy to drive. One word...SWEET! I predict big things for this car! SMALLNAILS Camaro, Scaley chassis, MB Slot wheels, NSR tyres, Ninco sprung guide without the spring, sidewinder Slot.it 21k motor 11/36 gearing. Interesting paint scheme and wheel arches that could do serious damage to the competition (think Ben Hur and razor wheels...). Not as quick as others but seems geared for larger tracks. Needs a good flogging SPRINT Capri, Fly chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, Slot.it wood track guide, in-line Slot.it Boxer 2 motor 10/24 gearing. The first car to arrive all the way from Italy, this is one to watch. Very quick and easy to drive. The only car with an open long can motor with magnetic attraction. All within the regs and may have an advantage on tracks with magnabraid or Scaley/Carrera tracks. FANGIO Audi 90, SCX chassis NSR/Avant Slot wheels, Slot.it/NSR tyres, SCX guide, in-line NSR 21k boxer, 9/27 gearing. Second car to arrive from the USA. Two Audi's with Marl...cough cough..boro liveries!! Not as wide as Newso's but very smooth and predictable to drive. I have a feeling the Audi's will be the cars to beat! MCGREGOR168. Capri, Fly chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, Fly racing guide, in-line scaleauto 29k boxer 10/27 gearing. Loads of power!!! Sits nicely on the track and seems quite stable until you give it the berries!! A paint job you'll either love or hate..I like it!!! GAZZA Mustang, Scaley chassis, Slot.it wheels, MJK tyres, Ninco sprung guide, sidewinder Slot it 25k motor, gearing 11/36. Nice well balanced car, gearing suits the motor. Looks awesome with the flares and the bulges...... BMR Torana, Scaley chassis, Pattos wheels, MJK tyres, Scalex guide, NSR Shark motor 11/38 gearing. Nice wide stance makes for a predictable driver. Very quick around my short track without being twitchy. IMKOUWL Torana, Quattrox chassis, Pattos Wheels ®, (Tyres?), Sidewinder Slot.it 25k, gearing 10/36. Very similar in handling to BMR's Torrie but more power under the finger to be used wisely!! Slides nicely and is predictable to drive. IMUGFORD Charger, Scalex chassis, (Wheels/Tyres?), scalex guide, sidewinder Plafit Pointer 22K gearing 11/34 Yee Ha! Hey Charger, this is smooth and very, very quick. Could be the dark horse in this thoroughbred field, but perhaps I am blinkered as a Mopar fan. SIDECAR STEVE Monaro, Slot.it chassis, Kai wheels, MJK tyres, Slot.it wood track guide, sidewinder Slot.it 25k motor, gearing 11/34. Well...its mine and I love it!. Seriously though it is fast and reasonably predictable. Bit of a handful on a short twisty track but should kick arse on bigger tracks. And its a Monaro....could only be better if it was a Charger or a Pacer! OSWALD Celica, MRRC Chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, MRRC guide, sidewinder NSR Shark motor, gearing 10/34 As you can see the overwidth front wheels have been sorted. This one sustained a bit of damage in the post and needed the bearings re-glued. After that it runs pretty well, a bit tail happy but should do well on longer tracks. Only the standard MRRC guide may let it down. MAGOO Capri, Fly chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, Ninco sprung guide, in-line NSR King 9/32 Gearing. Very smooth but a bit peaky on a short track. Gobs of power makes for spectacular power slides! BITMAN Celica, MRRC Chassis, NSR wheels, NSR tyres, Ninco sprung guide, sidewinder NSR Shark motor, gearing 10/34. Like Oswalds car, this too was damaged in transit and had over width front wheels. All sorted now but suffers major hop when trying to put the power down. A closer inspection reveals a well out of round rear wheel. Hope Bitman sends a replacement rear wheel set as it makes for a great comparo with Oswalds. Ok, thats it for this morning...Will get the remaining 12 cars checked later today and then all cars will face the scales. Edited March 14, 2008 by sidecar steve cheers!
