waytofast 6 Report post Posted May 5, 2013 hi josh, you seem keen as mustard but a bit hesitant to have a go at a wooden track. beg, steal or borrow a router get a sheet of 12mm mdf and have a go. route depth of 8mm is recommended. use anything you can find as a template. i used saucepan lids etc for my first track, then i got a lexan strip for my other tracks. i had never even routed anything before i sarted my first track. now i have built 6 of them. some were braided some copper tape. word of advice, dont do it in your garage, mdf has the finest dust and it gets everywhere. cheers, steve
Joshua Maguire 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2013 Cheers, so where do you recommend for me to do it and which is better braid or tape and where do you get the lexen strip. kalbfellp 69 Report post Posted May 5, 2013 Lexan strip is only one option fora router guide. I used very stiff airline, some guys have used a plastic moulding from Bunnings. You can always use constant radius corners and just use a trammel from a pivot to route the corners and then connect the corners. Tape is much easier and cheaper as no recess is required, but not as durable as braid. Quote Phil Hobart Miniature Car Club Tassie Resins Email

Garry J 23 Report post Posted May 5, 2013 You could look around the local wreckers for a stripped Toyota Lexcen or if you really want Lexan try Googling 'Lexan (your local area)' Quote Cheers, Garry J Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill

waytofast 6 Report post Posted May 6, 2013 if you look at the pics i posted at the beginning of this thread it shows a jig i made up for doing radius's and straight edges i used after i did some radius's with saucepan lids. always do your corners first, then your straights. a jig is the easiest way to go, especially for your first attempt. the lexan strips were from bunnings, but i think its a discontinued line now. If ever you get to canberra contact me and i'll show you how easy it all is. cheers steve
