Look's like i have to re route the lot. :P

Recess bit is 3.16 mm, track slot is 3.05 mm.

And to add to the nightmare, the bog i used does not route, goe's soft when the router hit's it.

Any idea's would be appreciated!

Dave I found the same thing, mine was just a smige tight in the 1/8 slot... easy fixed though. Mount the router bit in a drill put a grinding bit in a dremmel and spin up the drill and grind the necessary amount off to make it fit you slots.

Hope you don't have to route the lot Dave... Try using Builder's Bog... goes hard as a rock and will take routing and sanding.
Cheers,
Dick

Thought is was doing a tip run tommorow and going to buy a pool table..

Just tried out Rob's suggestion and it is better, so going back out after tea and re bogging with the better stuff (has a hardener tube to mix in).

Hopefully painting on Sunday.

Seem's to be a wide recess with about 2 mm from braid to slot.

Hhmmmm Rob, most gaps are .5-1mm max. from braid edge to slot edge(not slot centre). Check various cars guides in the slot to make sure the braids will adequately contact the track braid.

Which width of braid did you buy Dave?

3/16" 4.76mm or 1/4" 6.35mm If the router bit is the same as mine its for the 1/4" width braid.

@ Rob, yep 3/16 braid i thought it would be ok because the description on the ebay add mention's for use with 3/16 and 1/4 braid, i'm changing it to 1/4 on Sunday.

@ Phil, i went and got a 1/8 bit today and routed some test slot's and it's the same , still tight fit.

Maybe i need the 4 mm bit?

My track is routed with a 4mm bit. But my recess cutter is home made, so it fits.

1/8th inch is 3.18mm

I routed at 3.2mm, with one of those bits, and it was an "easy" but not sloppy fit, which is what you want.
That bit has done quite a few hundred feet of track around our club now........it is "tired" ......it lived a full and meaningful life...

Not sure how far you got, but you COULD turn the pin down in a lathe to fit your 3.05mm slot. Re-routing is a pig, even with a good bog.

You don't want a sloppy fit on your bit though, don't re-route to 3.5 or 4mm. The pin guide will be too loose, and it will wander around a bit especially as yu turn corners, and make a zigzaggy mess. (okay on the straights, as the router mostly "forces it left")

Alternately, if you don't want to do that, you could get another bit with a 2.95mm guide pin from that other source I mentioned to you.
If you decide to keep the 3/16th braid, just get a bit with 2.95mm guide pin, and 16mm side cut (5/8th) instead of 19mm (3/4 inch) and you won't need to fix anything.
