.Buy the licencing rights for the plain bodies and Maybe get them manufactured in China.

Unfortunatly id rather go with out ... than have more jobs in Australia lost to underpaid sweet shops overseas competitors...

ahh the price of globalisation. You have to decide. Would you rather pay $200 for a slot car or $55?

We dont decide were the current available cars (slot.it, scalextric, ninco, SCX) are manufactured so therefore if we want it we have to buy it, all im saying is that i would rather not have anymore jobs created in a country that is proven to be the biggest environmental poluter we have ever seen.

OK thats a no go from Davnic unless we can manufacture in Oz at a cost of 200-300 dollars per car. So your quite happy to buy existing slotcars that are made in China but not anything designed in Oz and then made in China??

Including Yngwie and myself thats 2 in, need another 148 players.

without meaning to sound too contencious its worth mentioning that per capita Australia is far worse than china in terms of pollution and environmental damage created.....

isnt it amazing how much debate a small die cast lump of plastic can generate!

i would seriously consider parting with $330 for said cars. i agree with the jobs should stay in Australia, and i agree China is the worlds bilge. Any country that manufactures large quantities for the rest of the world will polute, and with a population over a billion, that's a lot of dim sum.

I think this is a great concept, a co-operative of enthusiasts saying what will be made, and backing it up with funds.

This is a good idea!

I will get my mate onto it..he has all kinds of contacts in the manufacturing world..he hand makes compound radius sheet aluminium parts for WW2 fighter planes..He has 3 dimentional mdf forms made up by a cad designer from 70 yer old blue prints then hand makes the parts to fit over the form..

He does't see the cad design of a 1/32 slotcar body as being very difficult..and he has the contacts to get injection moulding tools made..

He probably has the contackts to get injection moulding done right here in Aus..

I would favour sourcing motors axles wheels gears etc from NSR..I get on very well with the Aus distributor Chris Osborne from T Bird.

The NSR stuff is real high qualiuty..

So i will start trying to get some wheels turning..

It would be absurd to think that we cant acieve this..It really isnt rocket science..

Just have a look at the cars some of you guys have built yourselves..

Just gonna pewrsue the idea off my own bat..as far as i can...

Phil

You had me at, Moffats 77 XC. So you can count me in.

Rick,

Something to think about. What about leasing the moulds from southerns? THe UK has now produced four aussie V8 cars for special sets in their own colour schemes, and not to mention shops and other companies producing limited editions using scalextric's moulds and manufactoring facilites. If Slot city has been able to produce 1500 GT40's and still sell them for the current price why coundn't a private consortium produce any other current moulds available in a livery of choice ( within licensing agreements)?

It's just a thought, but maybe worth looking into. If Southerns cant produce the "Jim Beam" or "Jack Daniels"cars, due to policies, it may be overlooked if privatly contracted out. I know that those two versions alone would sell more than 1500 units each.

Good point..Although personally i would be disinclined to want to have anything to do with Southern models.

As a scalextric dealer I have found them to be very unreliable and totally unprofesional..I have already torn enough of my own hair out in past dealings with them..

If foro slot and mini auto's etc, can get special models made in limited edition, why not here on auslots we get an Australian livery car produced. Im sure that there's a few of us out there that could help finance the operation. With members getting first bids and what left goes to local shops or overseas sellers.

With current moulds at scalextric, we would have a wide choice to choose from. Either V8's, 911's, lotus cortina (later in year), camaro's & mustangs from aussie historic racing, ford escorts etc. The list is hugh.

Just imagine 1500qty of a boxed set of bathurst winning lotus cortina's or V8 liveries sourtherns wont do, and not to mention the beauiful carrera cup cars. This would be a good way to show a few of the manufactors what we really want.

It must happen though hoffy as Scalextric UK have reproduced four Holden Commodores for the UK public. Or is it through Scalextric it self excluding Southerns?. Someone out there must know how other cars using the Scalextric moulds are done?. Im for one interested in what it would take to do a limited run of a certain model.

I think you have hit the key. Southerns are producing these as scalextric, so I would tend to say that Scaley may have a bit of a say in what gets done with the dies!

But for another third Non Scalextric party to produce the cars....well, I would tend to say that there may be some other restrictions in place!

Phil,

Good on ya lets see what sort of cost were up for. I think Peter Thompson from Southern models has the cars made under licence from Scaly. Since it bears the Scaly name I think Scaly have a lot of say in what can and cant happen with regards livery. Realistically even if we were to produce a car that is currently not made I cant see Southern helping us out. Its all about sales.

I have a patent lawyer business associate. I'll ask about trademarks ownership of brand etc. If we produce lets say the Brock 78/79 A9X and the Moffat XC77 what are the legal requirements? What royalties are we up for etc. That could end up being a big sticking point.

Talked to Jeff my Patent friend. Hes flat out today and Friday but is happy for me to talk with him on Monday. So hopefully I can get an understanding of the legalities of copying liveries. Royalties etc.

Imkouwl,

10-20K will go a long way towards starting the ball rolling. Very generous offer. For that you get the first car off the production line for free.

I just asked the misses for 10K this is what she gave me (KKKKKKKKKK) B) sorry Rick

But I was thinking about the Axels Im probably getting a little to far ahead, but the last time we purchased drill blanks we got them for $1.50 each for an order of 100 if we order 3000 then I recon probably <$1 each although steel has increased by 60% since the last order
