knoath
Nice stuff aposs!!! When you say "This can now be tidied up", what do you need to do? Is it just trimming the windows etc? Are you working out what chassis will fit the body as you go, or leaving that to someone else? Sorry for being one of those that have now increased your work load x 1000!!!! mtpanorama
You said in a previous post that the bodies are very strong and could probably be used as slotcar bodies so why go to the extra expense of making up a mould and then making copies when you can print them. Great idea, might be a good way to get a one off body of a car you really want that no one makes. Quote Corporate greed is driving inflation. Cash, use it or lose it. aposs
The problem with printing is the expense, maybe OK for 1 or 2 offs, but anymore. its more economical to run a mould off. Knoath, I can shape the bottom, & add the posts to attach the chassis to the body, just need to measure the desired chassis, & add to the model. As for tidying up, just making the windows & any rough edges smoother, probably only 10-20 minutes work!! Ahh, the joy of technology, & industry is still slow to equip themselves with cutting edge technology. This took about 5 minutes, whole cars take me about half a day to scan! Cheers Aposs
Eno the Wonderdog
Absolutely - if you can run off a car, get the scaling fixed and let someone like Phil from Tassie run a squillion of them off in his magic moulds.. we gotta black market! NimROD444
Hi Aposs, Nice to see this technology finally getting to where it needs to be, in the hands of the enthusiast. I've been looking at 3D printers for the past 3 years, was once quoted $200.00 for a one off model from a 3d prototyping company. If I may ask, which machine are you using for the printing Aposs? Some produce the model from the powder others from plastic, some are even have full colour 3D printing. I've gathered heaps of 3D models over the years and am happy to share them with you. PM me your Email address and I'll forward a few STL files for you to play with. Have you considered printing one off bodies for paying customers? I have a few I'd like to get printed if possible. I'm still waiting for the Saturday Jackpot so I can go buy an Infinion or ZCorp printer.......the dream lives on. BTW a new desktop 3D printer will be available soon for around the $5000.00 mark but it's resolution didn't look that great. Theres plenty of spare cars and controllers you can use

SlotsNZ
Aposs, you may (not) recall, that the first EVER reply you recieved on the 3D printer idea began something like."mate, buddy, old friend . . . "etc I did warn you, you might make a lot of friends . . . for the record, I'm keen to be in the loop on some of these, once the decision is made who is casting moulds, costs etc. Cheers Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts

Hi Knoath, Doesn't take up alot of my time, scanning cars is all of half hour work, printing done while i sleep. Also, I am not on this forum to sell any products. Yes, i do sell printers, laser scanners, but also plenty of other industrial & measurement equipment. I am not on this forum to sell any equipment, price excludes all but big business' anyway, considering you need over $150K to get scanning, this is purely a love job for me. If i can do soemthing that makes the hobby more interesting, & gets people thinking, & others enjoy using what i have to offer to help there hobbies, then all the better. I am new to the hobby, & cant wait to start using my resources to create something that is a little unique. If i can offer my equipment for use, & to only cover my costs, i am more than happy to. BTW, no offence taken at all mate, just want to make it all clear i am not here to make profit, not here to sell equipment, but on this forum to enjoy the hobby, & offer my services, be it specialised, in much the same way as other guys on this site do. It just so happens my equipment is pretty cool (& fun to use) Cheers Aposs
