Eno the Wonderdog
I was just pootling about and Luke showed me the SCX 2006/7 catalogue he was given and I spotted this rally thing SCX thing Basically a start pedestal thing that leads into a curve and there's two loops. the thing does lapcounting & laptiming. You fill out the rest wish SCX track as your whims require Looks like it would be a grouse "off the shelf" device to put into a hillclimb. I wondered if anyone had given it a play? The missus would kill me if she saw this post. Given I haven't paid for the wood track yet (and I've forgotten to tell her I need to dismantle the front wall to get it in!! ) and that was to be offset by getting rid of my Plastic (not happening - I have an empty garage out the back..) What's she gonna say when she spots an Alpine Pass going in.. azzav8s
Eno, I have this rally pack for another future job, Table is only getting started now for my current job. The rally pack is quite good. You can make a long track quite easily. It only has one controller port and one transformer port. It's only limitations for a quick and easy rally set up is the fact that it only has the one power connection. I got one for a bit of fun and to make use of my familys old track and I want to eventually paint up and make a rally track. If you want to borrow it and try it contact me - no probs to try it. Brilliant! I'll be interested to see how it goes (I'm not game to borrow and bring it home 'cause I'll be murdered in my bed.. ) What's wrong with a single power connection? You're only running one car?? I have a skillion bits of SCX / Classic track and need to use some of it 'cause I want a hillclimb! Eno the Wonderdog
I've got a little rally track over my track using one, I reckon they're excellent. Way cool. I'm not a big rally fan but I rather like hillclimbs and films like the James bond ones, the Italian job etc etc with blasts over the alps.. I reckon I could have fun with that. Does the power run seperate or is it included? How hard is the timing to use. It say "partial" tining so I assume it takes a reading each time you cross teh corner bit?? Tazracer
Had one for nearly a year and it is a great little unit, and you can make up any sort of track. No good for longer cars on the loops, the radius is just a bit too tight, but it's rally so it really doesn't matter. All the features are good with a set number of laps, avg lap time amd fastest lap all recorded. While running it beeps when you set a new fastest lap for that run. Downside, and it really has given me the s...ts, is the sensor is based on sensing a magnet to trigger it. The old scx motors trip it, all magents trip it, but motors not low to the track and sidewinders don't trip it. And who wants to run rally with magnets, let alone any other class. My next step is to get hold of someone with some electronic nouse and stuff, who may be able to change, or tell me how to change, the sensor to a light or something. All in all though it's a great addition to rally runners as new circuits can be easily changed, but also give good running against the clock. And it means when I build my wood track (one day) for club racing I'll be able to use all the old scaley, scx and ninco track for a rally circuit. Holty
the sensor is based on sensing a magnet to trigger it. My next step is to get hold of someone with some electronic nouse and stuff, who may be able to change, or tell me how to change, the sensor to a light or something. An alternative to the SCX system is the Ninco rally loops (with scaley ninco adaptor) and the Ninco N-score lap counter which is IR beam triggered. I saw these at Mobile Raceways in Dandenong the other week. Loops $72 a pair, counter $80ish, adaptor track pair $20ish. This would get around the Hall effect (magnetic) trigger problem. I'm actually making my own rally loops out of plywood and copper tape with scaley ends so they attach to normal track. I suppose I should start a thread with progress on this project. I'm trying to make a light beam trigger activate a stopwatch, and having burned 2 transistors, 2 leds, I'm seriously considering the Ninco counter timer. They're BANNED so perhap's it's a dud of an idea I might have to go and have a look at Pete's Ninco gear - thatnks for the idea HOlty. azzav8s
Eno, After reading this I am very disappointed, I didn't realise the rally pack needs a magnet to trip the sensor. - Bugger I would go the ninco one and buy the adapter tracks to allow you to use your existing track. Another project to do now, modify the existing rally chrono. talk soon.
