Eno the Wonderdog
Aussie - it's possible you're insane. It's possible you're a bloody geenyus. There's so much of this stuff that just festers past 'cause I'm not terribly electronically minded.. but this sounds cool.. aussieslotter
Aussie - it's possible you're insane. It's possible you're a bloody geenyus. There's so much of this stuff that just festers past 'cause I'm not terribly electronically minded.. but this sounds cool.. I dont want you to have to think about electronics, just enjoy the functions. This is just what goes on behind the scenes. We dont think how complex it must be to design say a car from scratch, then actually build it, we just drive it, use it, enjoy it and dont even think about those things. I just want people to know Im actually simplifying quite a few things, but in reality have to get complex to achieve those things. Luckily the main controller is all in a box with one screen and one navigator button, and you dont have to worry about whats inside. Digital slot cars should be a simple as possible to actually race and enjoy. I know nothing about electronics, Im a landscaper. Luckily I ran into a talented guy called John Huberts who helps me out. I tell him what I want in laymans terms and he talks to me in laymans terms, seems to work. I dont care how he does it, as long as it gives the functionality I want. I only show the board to show how it all evolves, what stage were up to and for the few electronically minded who do read it who might be interested. Eno the Wonderdog
Aussie - have you started on a routed Digi circuit yet? As you may have read I'm getting a routed 3 laner up here that may suit such mods.. maybe.. It sounds a lot like your gear is gonna do the business - you almost need to sell it back to the 'big four' so they have a standard & we can all go forward! ! aussieslotter
Gidday Eno, The project I guess is best broken down into 3 stages i)Electronics (Lane Brain) Up to protyping stage, might have some circuit boards in around 3 weeks. Apart from testing Ive done pretty much as much as I can for now so onto the flipper assembly. ii)Flipper Assembly The flipper assembly consists of the flipper and 2 solenoids mounted on a seperate piece of 12 mm MDF where you choose the correct flipper shape, attach it to the board, screw up under table and connect 5 wires. Have drawn 30 different flipper shapes left and right hand and are currently being converted to CAD so the flippers can be laser cut. Then holes drilled, threads tapped and then possibly chrome plated. Hopefully one of these 30 shapes will fit any situation, or tweak the situation to suit the flippers that are available. Solenoids: Cant source anything to my liking so decided for now to make my own. I also need 2 other small components custom made and chromed. Then a small baseboard has to be routed to accept the solenoids and somewhere where the flipper pivots on. Im waiting on drawings so onto the routed stage, firstly plans.... iii)Routed Track Saving this till last but today I almost sat down and started drawing it out in full or half scale so I can sketch in the racing line, this is the best bit. Once this is complete it goes to the draftsman to convert into CAD as its getting CNC routed. So its happenning but theres a lot to do so just one step at a time. I figure theres a lot more work in the flipper assembly so will do the harder stuff first. aussieslotter
Hi All, The printed circuit boards arrived last week, we are currently building 4 sets of boards by hand as prototypes.Hopefully in few weeks we can start testing. aussieslotter
Just standard SSD chips. Although I have thought one day Id like to make an upgraded chip. SSD chip upgrade? Eno the Wonderdog
IS that going to get you into trouble with Scaley when you start selling these things? aussieslotter
Its cool, theyre only accesories, not the main operating system which will always be the SSD powerbase. If Scaley likes it they can use it, Im not fussed, but as they cater for toy market this isnt likely. aussieslotter
Hi All, Latest deveolpments confirm Lane Brain, Race Base and V-Dash are easily adaptable to Carrera and Ninco N Digital with just firmware changes. On Ninco flippers they will need tp have plastic flippers "metalised". Although nothing can be done to fix dead strips on either system.
