Following the practice session today (thanks Jim), both car models are equal in performance. We noted that the Camaros may have two theoretical advantages but in the spirited combat of repeated crash-and-burn races starting anywhere for some drivers between "Ready" and "Go", the Mustangs and Camaros proved evenly-matched adversaries. So no need to sweat that you've picked the right car.

We used stock Scalex Trans Am's with just the front button magnet. Tyres were trued. The track is a fast Ninco layout. All the cars showed high levels of grip with some, but not a lot, of sliding. Any sliding can be caught and controlled. Two turns featured kinks and these saw most deslots where the cars changed direction. Two lanes, white and orange, were a little bumpy so drivers need to adapt and drive smoothly. the outer lanes can be just as fast as the middle lanes.

Just for the record and for anyone looking to join the race (you have to be a member so guests have to register first), the differences are:

1) Camaro has a slightly wider track but it has better clearance. My T-car, a stock Mustang with true tyres, showed slight signs of rubbing the sidewalls. On returning to Circuit Maison Rouge, a quick look at a Camaro showed much more clearance in front and rear wheel wells.

2) The Camaros' front axle ride height allows the guide to sit fully into the slot and allow a little free play with the wheels, i.e. the front tyres don't bar any weight. The Mustangs' fronts do touch and do bear weight. On my car, the axle is snug in its bearers so no free play. On its home track, the Mustang can lose the front end when pushed hard, however this never happened on Armchair's grippier Ninco surface. I'll still turn down the fronts a bit more just to get the guide fully into the slot.

One other tip: in testing, my Mustang had the pickup guide spring just touching the front axle enough to leave a slight rub mark. A quick bend with pliers removed these "brakes". DON'T use modelling nippers to trim it <_< mine have a neat round gap in the blades now.

A reminder also that the entries were to be put into the entries post. There have only been twelve official entries so that is all we have allowed for.

Any others who want to come along are welcome as we have not heard from two of the guys since the entries were accepted. If someone doesn't turn up others can race.
