Johno75
Hi, I'm going to have access to a CNC machine so just wondering if anyone has any 8 x 4, 3 or 4 lane CNC tracks plans/files I could use to do a track? Cheers Johno
MrFlippant
Unless you're wanting to do 1/43 or HO, the only 3 or 4 lane possible in a 8x4 sheet is an oval, with maybe a wiggle on one side. If you want any kind of "race track" you're going to need to go down to 2 lanes, or do a 1 lane rally.
charlesx
Hi Johnno75. If you can do an oval you should be able to do a figure 8. That would be much better. Many of us started with a figure 8 which can provide some excellent if limited racing. Also easy to extend later if you wish. I am assuming 1/32nd. My 3 lane 4.8 x 1.2m (4ft) layout has 110 lane centres with 150mm gutter for 1/24th. Track is 470mm wide which still leaves a quite wide inner lane. What lane spacing do you want as that can make a big difference too. To do CNC you need to set-up so you can probably do on the fly. Alternatively any competent draftsperson should be able to do plan providing you can advise format required by your CNC machinery.. I will see what basic plan I can produce to see what is possible. Suggest you look at web too as there are lots of plans available there. Regards Chas Le Breton
Johno75
no worries. thanks for your reply guys. I might just build a 4 lane track using afx track then. I don't want to spend a fortune as it's only for my kids and their friends. Is there a good place to buy second hand afx track at a good price? I'd like to do the elm grove 32 so need the following · (28) - 15" Straights · (4) - 9" Straights · (6) - 6" Straights · (2) - 18" Radius 1/8 Turns · (7) - 15" Radius 1/8 Turns · (14) - 12" Radius 1/8 Turns · (11) - 9" Radius 1/8 Turns · (2) - 6" Radius 1/8 Turns Edited August 8, 2022 by Johno75
charlesx
Good choice Johno75. While you could build a 1/32nd or 1/43rd track the kids would probably soon tire of it. Good building. If they still get bored you can easily change. Regards Charles Le Breton
Garry J
I have a box of AFX track in original packaging, I can dig it out and see what's there if you're interested. Kevan
You can get a lot of track on an 8x4 board as long as it's a single lane Rally track. Quote Life is like a box of Slot cars...
