Recommended Posts

I have just received a Fly truck from my friendly postman and my good friend ebay........ How good are these trucks, the detail is awesome and i cant wait to run it on the track unfortunatley it will need to stay in it's box for a few weeks as i have visitors.

They 'act' fairly big and heavy with less brakes as you might expect. Racing truck against truck we love them. Many fragile bits and occasionally a good shunt will knock the upper cab on some models loose. I've had to hotglue the cab on my Mercedes Bosch truck more times than I like to count.

Hey Shayne,

Could you tell me the size of the trucks in MM please. I was thinking of getting some but I have an overpass/underpass that I made woth a jigsaw & wanted to see if they would fit under before investing in one.

Cheers mate,

Hiya Jason,

They are 3 1/2 inches or, according to Google 3.5 inches = 88.9 millimeters :D

And I second the no-brakes thing, the first time I ran one, I thought the brake wire had come off !!!

Great fun to drive, though and well worth the money

Cheers

Andrew

Lavenlarr in the second race (reverse grid) im sure it was #65 who was driving down the grass on the inside after the bridge for about 150m.Very spectacular but had to end in tears which it did.He spun on the next corner. This race was probably the best of the whole day, cars included and no Rodney Crick didnt win(another lap or two he would of), one of the little trucks won (unsure of who)big applause given for his effort.

The last race of the day was the trucks at 4:30 but i had to bail before as i couldnt cope with my 5yr old anymore. He was saying he wanted to go home about an hour after we got there.I managed to stay till about 4pm though.

Very enjoyable day it was!!!!

I'm Sorry THC, I dont share your enthusiasm with Truck racing. Trucks were built for getting cars to the track, not for racing!!!!

I love the fact it exists. :P

Aussie trucks are girly though (or they were & I'd be happy to be argued with) but the European truck racing series is for fast trucks.. just like on the roads Aussie race trucks are speed limited.. therefore not scary enough..

You need to head to the outback then and see the Road Train racing in the unspeedlimited Northern Territory.

European trucks Baah.

Commodores and Falcons were built for taking the kids to school and loading them up to the hilt for the annual family holiday but they still race them!!! V8 utes are for driving bails of hay round the farm ,they also race them!!! and probably the best racing action ive seen was from a brown mazda station wagon (for driving the ladies bowls team to the game) driven by a guy called Wakefield (think he drives V8s now)He would be ahead of a gaggle of souped up RX7s by half a lap after probably three laps of the race.

The only type of racing i cant get into is when the race vechile doesnt have wheels ie:horse racing, yacht racing etc.

While most of the trucks on the track yesterday looked like they had just had there cement mixer taken off the back, out of all the races on the day (V8 utes, GT Championship,Performance Cars etc) the trucks provided the closest and most spectacular racing of the day.

As for not being scary i think maybe if they were unrestricted i wouldnt have been standing where i did.Having Crick come towards us sideways not more than 10m away was plenty scary.

I think if there was a bigger field of quality trucks like Cricks the series would be bloody terrific.Cricks machine went like buggery and certainly did not sound like a dump truck.

Only thing i didnt like was the diesel smoke,I was glad when the wind changed and blew it all towards the grandstand.

Guys next time the trucks come to your town go check them out.

I gotta agree if it has wheels and an engine it can be raced!! As for the fly truck, it goes pretty well now that i have modified the guide, it was spring loaded and caused the truck to jump out of the slot at the first corner.

Shayne, I drove up to somewhere near the snow one year (maybe Bright?) 'cause they claimed they were having the Aussie Lawnmower Racing title there. That was a little odd.

Postie bike racing is also wonderful (I hope it still exists!)

I saw teh big road trains Vinno - up past Emerald in far north west quoonsland. I drove straight off the road & didn't think I'd got car enough off for a while!

THC? Standing in the way? I always figured you try to stand where the cars aren't going to go. Went to the RAC Rally with my Grandad & Dad in Sutton Park when I was a kid.. was early 70s so the big flared escorts were the ones I remembered. I refused to cross the tracks & made certain I was on the inside of corners and poking my head out around trees. (Was a round of the world title then I believe).

I can't stand on the end of the front straight at the sprintcars 'cause it makes me want to cry.. and I'm 41!!

Hi fellas, I agree the trucks are good, just for the detail. I bought 2 the other week for my Mrs and I for our scx digital set (well sets) and have managed to convert one of the trucks. Took a bit of cutting and shaping but it works. I took the chip out of one of our ferrari's, it just clips out so it can go back in just as easily and I modifed the truck to do the same. Still working on the front wheels though.
