2021 Touring Car Proxy Round 7 - Bob's

Recommended Posts

We're back to racing - Wednesday night on Bob's track.

Nice long straight for those cars that like to stretch their legs.

That's a bit different to others on the roster.

Can't see that it has been used on this proxy in the past couple of years.

It's a track we rarely race on. Bob's other track is his preferred choice but it's plastic.

Two great looking tracks. Why not run one round on each. Nothing wrong with plastic (apart from initial cost). Regards Charles Le Breton

Most of the proxy cars have guides too deep for classic Scalextric track.

Pity. Scaly Sport track would have probably been OK. Regards Chas Le Breton

Last night was a great night of racing with some real surprises on the night.

It started with Curef’s car breaking its guide in practice.

Luckily I had a spare at home (100 ks away) so I quickly rushed home to fix his car while Bob and Alvaro waited patiently. I left them to talk about the weather and politics whilst sipping their chardonnays and merlots. Back a few hours later and the little blue Renault was ready for action but all the caviar and lobster was gone. (C’mon, would I lie? OK, pizza and 5 min to replace the guide with one I had with me but I did scratch a fingernail.)

In what proved to be the norm for the night all the cars were a pleasure to drive, even Shaynus’s which suited this track and gave him his best finish in the proxy. Well done on getting 8th place!

Aloha and Nonfractual also finished in the top 10, both cars loving Bob’s track. On the flip side Jimmy’s Renault with its high rear wing kept clipping the fence on the bridge giving Jimmy his worst result so far. You’ll see it on the video.

There were only 3 of us racing (Alvaro, Bob and me) but we’re probably the most experienced racers in Canberra so very few deslots. I know I could have driven all the cars harder but the last thing you would want was a deslot it the other end of the loooong straight which would have lost a lap.

Here’s the post-race review, race videos to come.

32Coupe left everyone else for dead with fastest lap and over a lap ahead of 2nd place (first loser :P).

The first 4 places were local cars despite us rarely using this track with the 2 Hawaiians very close behind. Aloha, Nonfractual and Shaynus all had their best results with Peter Gunn and Jimmy rounding out the top 10.

You now have a very exclusive 3D printed guide that I use in a lot of my cars. A lot of research and testing went into that design which I think is version 8.

Would be good to catch up with you if you make it to Canberra - keep me posted.

Cheers

Paul

With age comes experience. :D

And now, the much awaited videos. Apologies for the angle on some of these videos, I didn't realise the clip holding my phone had dipped down.

32coupe, Dixie, sticks. Easy to see how dominant 32coupe's car is in this video.

Nev, DP201, Alvaro

Brumos, Brooksy, bov with bov proving you have to paint your car a distinctive colour to make it stand out in the videos.

Jimmy, Lance, Sports. Lance making my car work hard for the win, it was close. You can see where the high rear wing on Jimmy's car catches on the border above the bridge.

Thank you for the video and of course, running the round.  I love the Touring proxy and the excitement it provides around the world with these cars.  On to the next and good luck to all of you on Raceday.

thanks a lot for running the event and providing us the video... looks like my car did not like one of the corner and is completely loose in exits. I need to get some yellow dog next year, or move to different rims with the MJK tyres.
