2021 Touring Car Proxy Round 6 - Peter's

Round 6 will be this Sunday on Peter's 2 lane track.

From this angle the straights don't look long but it still takes 8 second for a quick lap.

Peter’s track is an old 2 lane, painted in ferrodor and running copper tape. It’s pretty much a power track with 6 straights and some tight corners between them. The cars that are quick out of corners should do well on it.

4 of us made it out to Peter's for round 6 of the proxy on his 2 lane track, me, Alvaro, Brad and the track owner.

The cars were raced for 2 min on each lane and it was surprising how nice all the cars were to drive. Even the slow(ish) cars liked running and didn't show any vices. The only car that had any trouble was 32coupe's high powered Mercedes. For some reason it had no brakes, not what you want on a track with lots of straights and hairpin corners.

Here's the finishing order. Peter has 2 tracks in his house so don't get confused with the 3 laner below.

Thanks for running the round.

I would welcome your thoughts on the possible reasons behind the differences in performance between my lagging small Honda and, for example, Brumos's small Clio rocketship!

And of course the important videos.

On some of the videos you'll notice some cars slowing down when they shouldn't. It hasn't happened on other tracks and I think it's because they didn't like the copper tape conductive surface.

Brumos and sticks. Apologies for coming off twice with your Renault but the car felt so surefooted it wanted to be pushed to the limit - like my car. Unfortunately the short wheelbase and greater height (than my car) meant it deslotted - my car would just drift and lose time.

You're asking the $64,000 question.

For what it's worth here's my observations. Brumos's car is an NSR so it has the benefit of coming out of the factory with a lightweight body and dimensions (width, length, height) tested by NSR to be pretty spot on. Your car has a 3D chassis, probably not designed by a team of engineers for best performance but designed to fit the Scalex Honda body.

My car, like yours, also has an aftermarket chassis but that chassis is from one of the best handling cars ever built - the Scaleauto Toyota GT1. It's fitted to a Scalex Calibra body that I lightened as much as I could with a dremel. I also spent weeks testing with lead in various spots so it was as perfect as I could make it. I had 4 x Scaleauto chassis's set up in different ways and constantly tested them against each other to get the best one.

Then I gave it to my brother who made it even better.

I had 8 other proxy cars I went through before deciding on the Calibra. Some were close in performance. One was better but not as consistent and you must have a car that is easy to drive on the limit that doesn't deslot. I spend a lot of time getting the front of the car setup so it (almost) never deslots, just slides out.

There's probably a dozen other things that make my car magic to drive but there's no way I can tell you what the magic ingredient is. If I knew then all my cars would be race winners and unfortunately they aren't.

Hope I haven't confused you even more.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks Peter for providing your great little track for Rd 6 & a big thanks  to Paul & crew for great driving & video.

Congrats to podium with some very quick cars just ever so slightly off to pace but all could change next round with a field this close.

Cheers Jimmy:D

Thanks to all involved in putting on the round - congrats to the Podiumites!

Looks like really close racing - good stuff ! :)

Cheers,

Tony.

There's only two questions:

1. What direction do you go

2. What's the Lap Record?

No worries here based on this crowd and my Clio, 6th is a win, I appreciate the drive

At the beginning of this series many moons ago now there was a problem with mag affect on some cars due to types of motors being used and the mag attraction using magna braid tracks

Paul banned our cars using the motors we were and said at that time he would revise the rules to stop that happening again , mostly on the motor side as some were using motors which actually stated magnetic attraction, but they were able to race this series.

He also mentioned going through the rules and updating them , so hence my comment cure99. not worth building new cars until all this is sorted out

Hi Peter and Paul.

Yes my car was one of those offenders. Did not even realise that it was marked magnet effect as none of our local tracks have magna braid. Fact all the Canberra tracks had magna braid was unknown. I am only aware of one track in NZ so fitted. It was certainly no advantage to my car but it seems rules should make it all clear if they did not before. I do not recall any mention.

Hope this all gets sorted out.

I'm going towards Slot.it, Scaleauto, Sideways, Revoslot, Piranha, Plafit and NSR motors only. They are readily available and you should be able to find something suitable from this lot.

That's the only rule change I want to make.

No fixed ratio, it won't suit different motors or individual car weight.

Cheers

Paul
