2020 Touring Car Proxy Round 6 - Dave's track

Recommended Posts

The next round will be next Wednesday night - 7 October 2020 on Dave's track.

fetch?id=1666207&d=1601520740

It's similar to Andrew's track (Round 4) but has no esses in the middle.

Will this be another track that upsets the mighty Calibra or will it return to it's (rightful) dominant form? We'll know in a week.

Cheers

Paul

Looks like a track where balancing a car smoothly on the limit will be needed to produce a good lap time - I'm in trouble!:D

Hope my little Taxi is up to the task. My Alfa is not doing to well in the QuickSlicks Proxy. It is in the modified class but it is basically stock.

The last time I went to this track I took my proxy car and broke the lap record.:D;)

You might be pleasantly surprised. Found and fixed this problem with your guide holder, just needed a drop of superglue.

It will be interesting to see how your car behaves now.

Did you do the 3D print?

I thought this was an early JS chassis, probably a pre production one as it has a few design flaws.

The whole arm where it's split has to be made much stronger. Not only did it split but the end where it joins to the round hole that holds the guide was almost breaking off.

If possible could you add a way of limiting how much sideways movement there is in the arm? Maybe put in a piece on each side that you can put a screw through so you can increase/decrease the sideways movement just by adjusting the screws.

The section where the front axle goes through needs looking at too. The front axle can move forward/backward too much.

It's a good thing there are 6 screws holding the body to the chassis as the front 2 broke through the chassis. The front skirt is too thin and needs to be tripled in thickness.

Sorry to be so brutal but I test 3D bits that one of our guys does and if you don't know what needs to be fixed you're wasting your time and materials every time you print a chassis.

Any chance I could get Version 2 off you?

Thanks

Paul

Yeah, that is definitely version 1.0!  If you check out the 3D print section you will see I've done a similar design for the V8 supercars. Since printing my proxy chassis I have had a "eureka!" moment with my printer settings and my prints have much better layer adhesion and print quality than what you have in your hands. I will not be surprised if there are more breakages around the front axle mounts. I entered this proxy as a bit of an acid test to see how well it would hold up as we weren't racing locally at the time, hence very little tuning was able to be carried out.

Hopefully if there is a proxy next year with similar rules my car may perform more consistently, there is hope I think.

I'm away for another week and a half so by the time I get home, tweak my design and print it and get it to you the proxy will probably be pretty well over.

If the chassis has a catastrophic failure, so be it, I'll just have to sit out the remaining rounds. I've enjoyed the experience so far, even despite my results!

Don't worry, there'll definately be another proxy next year. Too many people have told me they are going to build a car to beat mine. :D

Not me! I'll be back, but not to win. Have to learn how to walk before I run! (Still having trouble crawling at the moment!) :D

Yes I'll definitely be back attempting to beat you again. Hopefully more than once. I see a gear change in my future.:)

We're half way through the proxy and some of the cars are showing signs of wear. During last night's racing one of ALS rear wheels moved on the axle, chewing its gears and those tyres aren't going to last long.

The motor on Pepsi's car popped out.

In between heats I scraped off the hotglue and glued the motor back in but I must have disturbed something as it died on the last heat. Postmortem to come.

Check out the video between Alvaro, Shaynus and Supercharged. Shaynus's guide decided to call it a day and it's going to take more than superglue to fix. It will be back next round, together with ALS and Pepsi's cars.

Jimmy, Lance, Peter Gunn

32coupe, Sports Racer, ArroldN

Sorry but something killed the video of Aloha, reek and bov so you'll have to guess how your cars ran.

So who won? Where did your car come?

fetch?id=1666539&d=1602123304

Even though it's good to see my brother's car in 1st place there's currently a protest logged with the stewards. Seems the guy who built the track 2 years ago (32coupe) made sure it was built to make sure his Proxy car came 1st on it.

There's nothing in the rules about building a track to suit your car but there should be. I'm sure other proxies have missed adding this important rule as well.

Stay tuned as to the results of the protest. This may need to go to a higher court (mum).

Name Round 6 laps Round 6 best lap time Round 6 Points

As you can see with 6 rounds to go it's very close at the top with only 6 points separating positions 2 to 7.  Even the clown in 1st place isn't guaranteed to be there at the end of the proxy.

I've penalised sticks 10 points. His tyres had to be replaced as the old ones were getting worse each round. At Chris's track they were losing grip even off the startline.

You might find this video interesting. I thought it would be good to have a driver's debrief after the race and I'll include this from now on.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks to all who participated and made this round happen. Seems the taxi struggled at this venue. Tony, Dale and Lance move ahead of me.  Wow 2nd race that Paul didn't win. Congratulations to the podium contingent. On to the next round. Hopefully the taxi can make up ground.

One thing i did mention at the start of this series was tyres , obvious to me looking at cars at the start some tyres were to small and would NOT get through the whol;e series , perhaps there should be a new minimnum start tyre rule, nice to see a new name on top , dissapointed with my car should have gone a lot better on that type of track, i'll congratulate Paul on his car this year something else .

Dave's track is all long straights with tight corners so cars that accelerate quickly do well on it. Andrew's car (32coupe) can be a handful on other tracks but if ever there was a car/track symbiosis then last night saw it in full effect.

Unfortunately that meant cars like yours which handle well but are mild to drive didn't stand a chance.

Thanks for the run guys, great vids & good to see some cars getting much needed attention to make them competive.Keeps it all low key & friendly

I went up to Sticks place to do some last minute testing on Ferradore before the start of the Proxy & his car was nice to drive.

With Proxy's TYRES are critical & was good to see him get a some new boots to keep him interested in  the rest of the series, watch out next year when he gets serious:D.

Cheers Jimmy:D

Thanks for the opportunity to host the round. Everyone has done an incredible job setting up their cars to cope with a range of tracks and drivers. It was fascinating to drive very fast cars with vastly different characteristics. It gives the driver a great sense of what to aim for when setting up their own cars. Brumos RSR's car in particular was incredibly smooth to drive, I felt I had real control of it going through the corners but it had plenty of pace too.

Sports Racer runs a tight ship ordering the cars, recording the races and capturing the results and managing the breakdowns. It was great to be part of it and I look forward to running my own car in it next year.

thanks for running the round  once again outstanding job!!!!!!

Thanks Paul for gluing motor back in, it's a 3D pod that's a bit brittle around the motor mounts/ axle carriers, so not surprised, hence so much hot glue holding it in

Wayne

Thanks for the kind words guys, makes running this proxy all worthwhile.

I'll fix all the broken cars and make sure they're ready for the next round. No cost, I've got heaps of spares and I like working on slotcars.

Cheers

Paul
