Shaynus
Hi All At the track I race at we have been talking about how it would be nice to run some of our "other" cars that don't fit into any of our actual race categories. The problem with an "open slather" class is that someone may want to race a home built FJ Holden, while someone else may want to race a fully bombed NSR Mosler. Sure both can circulate but it isn't much of a race or challenge. We thought of maybe recording times over two events and rewarding the most improved, but then that opens the door to sandbagging and modifying cars between each meeting. Closest to the pin, (time wise) could see people drive hard the slow to a crawl for the last few feet before the line. The idea is for people not to need or feel the need to buy extra cars for such a once in a blue moon event (if it ever happens) Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated. It is a bit of "what if" situation.
slot car tragic
I dunno, maybe it depends on how many in your race group and how many actually want to do it. Say you ran 4 classes in a night and then ran this Run Whatcha Brung as the final event, the guys who don't want to do it can go home and the guys who do can have a mess around with or without the lap counter on. Or, you could run sub groups within the one class, the fast cars up together, then the next slowest and so on. One of the race groups I'm in were at an impasse about a new class. We ended up using Patto's 1/32 scale FJ Holden shell with either scratchbuilt plastic or any old chassis out of the spares box and what a success! Guys who hadn't done any of that sort of modelling for many years really enjoyed it so much so we started another class, same deal chassis wise but any choice of Patto's body. This has led to a third class using a Pendles plastic chassis which we got landed for about $9 each and any Patto's Aussie muscle car from 1967-80. No sticky tyres just stuff out of your spares bin, cars sliding around, similar performance what a hoot. Sorry to ramble, just home from our 38th wedding anniversary, several beers and a couple of bottles of wine and a great meal. Chris. Tony.A
Hi Shaynus what we have run occasionally at MrSlotcar is what we call a SLR race.An SLR race or single lane racing Where each competitor selects a car and puts it on a lane. That car stays in that lane for the entire race.At the end of the bracket all the cars are returned to the start line and you plug your controller in in the next lane.So for instance one bracket you could be running an NSR,the next bracket a Scalextric, the next a Womp and so on.You could end up driving a rocket ship one bracket and the next bracket the car could be slow and doesn’t handle.A lot of fun
rob_nz
We run one completely open class and one which is almost open but for an 18k motor limit and a Le Mans pedigree of any era. 18k motors are not all created equal as we know! It pretty much seems to sort itself out and depending on the field and who has what, people with more than one to race might select what is going to provide for tighter competition. It’s good fun seeing completely different cars on the grid too. Definitely worth a crack and at the end of the day people can run other class compliant cars if they want to. Handy for use as a testing ground if you’ve tutu’d around with something too
ZeGas
What about swapping cars around drivers, if they are not too precious to the owner, then take the combined time/laps to determine the winner.
