2020 Nsr Challenge Is On!!!!!!!!!!

It's that time when we all get ready to race at the annual NSR Challenge in Nelson.

This is a race for the classic sports cars made by NSR.

If you have been to one of these events you will not want to miss out on the biggest RTR Slot Car meet NZ has to offer.

Tony and his crew do an amazing job of hosting a very well organized race meeting and the racing is just a part of it.

The cars provide very close racing and the atmosphere is awesome, we get together to race and have fun all weekend.

Don’t use booking.com, as you won’t get the discount.

Entry forms and rules will be out early next year and the only change will be you can now use wheel spacers.

I will be limiting this event to 36 racers with preferential entry to the last year’s entrants first.

On the weekend there will be a race for the new NSR F1 cars.

More details to follow................

 

There are a couple of minor changes to the car rules this year, nothing too serious.

We can now fit longer axles and wheel spacers for greater stability and fit the new deep wood guide that NSR have recently released.

NSR have updated their motors, the older Shark 20k (orange) and the new Evo Shark (screw in) motors are the motors to use.

 

 

 

Below are the car rules.

 

 

 

NSR Challenge Car Rules for 2020 - Ford GT Mk IV, P68, GT40, Porsche 917K and 908/3

 

Rims must be the same size as what comes with the car, ie: the same width and diameter

All 4 tyres must still have the NSR logo on at least one side

Gluing of front and rear tires to rims to enable truing is permitted

The front tyres may be tapered and or coated with clear nail varnish or clear super glue to reduce friction

All wheels must have NSR classic inserts fitted

Wheel inserts may be narrowed but must look complete when in place

 

Stock classic factory NSR chassis (black) only

Stock classic factory NSR motor pod (red/orange) only

Any NSR clip in or screw in guides and guide spacers may be used

Front axle height adjusting screws may be used if chassis has this option

Axle bushes may be glued to the motor pod

Sticky tape may be fitted to the motor pod and chassis to dampen movement

NSR suspension kits may be fitted

All cars must use NSR 11-32 metal gears

Axles may be replaced and spacers may be used (any brand)

Axles must be solid and remain completely round

Lead may be fitted to the motor pod, chassis and or body but must remain inside the car so that it can’t be touched when marshalling the car (magnet holders may be removed)

Only the Shark 20K and 21.5 Shark motors may be used, motors can be glued and or screwed in position

The motor shaft may be trimmed for clearance

Bodies, driver/interiors and chassis must remain complete

Complete full interior must be used

White kit cars may be used but they must look period correct

Minimum weight of each car is 80gms, during and after each race

No other modifications and/or tweaks are permitted

 

Any car may be re-scrutineered at any time during this event

The body may be removed for further inspection

The Westport Club Captain and myself wish to lodge a "team entry" which will come attached to a case of JD's Honey.

 

Please advise the amount of selective blindness we can expect from the chief scrutineer in return for our generosity in provision of lubricant.

- And whether any extra is required to knobble all Blenheim cars, and Matt and Dion's entries. jumping0045.gifand Tonz of course.....

Flights booked. For anyone else from HB area, I got $308 return from HB to Nelson. That's the cheapest I've been able to do it by a country mile, and included a checked bag.

 

For anyone else going through Wellie-wood - I played with separate legs over Wellington and got a decent Nelson/Wellington leg each way, by going down Thursday lunchtime, coming back first flight Sunday, just means I miss the Sunday sprint.

Branco - the inserts can't have holes drilled so ya can't run the 90mm axles. HA!

Enjoy the racing boys. Sadly, I’ll be overseas again this year in May and won’t be able to join in the fun.

I can if the wheels/inserts are at the end of the axle!! :D

On the Sunday we will have some racing for the newly released NSR F1 cars.

 

If you haven't got one organized and you want to race one on the Sunday, get in contact with Tony to see what he has coming.

 

Rules for these cars to follow asap, the car rules will be simple so that every one has the same chance of competing.

Beauty Dave, Tony said he won't have the poster ready for a bit, so I'll hack this around some for my Feb newsletter.

 

Mac has bought a house set of the 86/89 and I have some coming for the shop and for myself.

UPDATE............

The NSR is looking to be another great event, entries are filling up very quick.

The F1 cars are almost in NZ and when we get our grubby little hands on them we will be fnializing the car rules for them so keep checking back here so you don't miss them.

Tony will be posting them once they are sorted, they will be as simple as we can have them to keep the cost down and give us all the close racing we enjoy.

NSR F1 update....................................

 

Here are the car rules for the NSR F1 cars that we will be racing on the same weekend as the NSR challenge........................

 

In basic terms they show you get your car, throw some numbers on it, glue and true the tires, add some lead up to 90 grams and then play with the screws till it runs how you want it to.

A spring kit and axle stopper can be fitted if you feel the need.

We have got some running and at this stage they have lots of brakes so a controller that can dial out some brakes would make racing the cars easier as they have so much rear grip.

The boxer motor and the ratio are not an issue if you have a 1/2 decent controller.

 

 

NSR F1 Car Rules

 

Any of the NSR ’86-’89 F1 cars may be used

 

General

NSR F1 Cars must be complete with the appropriate visible details, driver, wings, inserts, scoops etc….

Only the KING EVO3 21.4k motor may be used, motor may be glued and or screwed into factory position

All cars must use NSR F1 gears 10-27

A minimum ground clearance of .5mm is required for all entries, including chassis, gears, and bodywork

Bodies, driver/interiors and chassis must remain complete

Maximum weight of each car is 90gms, during and after each race

No other modifications and/or tweaks are permitted other than what is listed below

 

Chassis

Stock NSR F1 factory NSR chassis (black) only

Magnet and its holder may be removed

Axles and spacers must be NSR items

Axle bushes may be glued to the motor pod

NSR #4860 axle stopper may be fitted to increase gear durability

NSR spring kits are permitted

Front axle position may be adjusted using the factory screw holes

Stock NSR F1 factory NSR motor pod (red) only

Stock NSR F1 clip in guide must be used

Ballast may be fitted to the motor pod, chassis and or body but must remain inside the car so that it can’t be touched when marshaling the car

Screws may be loosened for better performance

Sticky tape may be fitted to the motor pod and chassis to dampen movement

 

Wheels/Tires

All rims and tires must be NSR F1 items - ie: the same width and diameter as what comes with the car

Tires may be glue and trued

Front tyres may be coned and or coated to reduce friction as long as the coating is clear, solid and stable

All 4 tyres must have the NSR logo on at least one side

All wheels must have NSR F1 inserts fitted, inserts may be narrowed but must look complete when in place

Maximum width across front and rear axles is 67.5mm

 

 

 

THE ONUS IS ON THE OWNER TO ENSURE

THAT THEIR CAR COMPLIES WITH THE RULES

just so you know when doing numbers, I won't be there on Sunday for the F1 race.

There may be some local club members not doing the main event, who want to come Sunday.

 

Basic cost cutting - I got a cheap flight back to wellie-wood by departing early Sunday

Remember the 90 grams is a maximum not the usual of having a minimum weight.

I ran my car at 85 grams and it was good one my home track, at 90 grams it was truckloads betterer!!

These rear tires have a huge amount of grip and the more weight up front really helps to make them flow on the track more = more laps per 2 minute run.
