Capri-corn7
Like many others I've always liked the Coke branded Moffat Mustang. I prefer the 69 model but have had this 70 Revell kitset kicking around for along time, along with a spare Pioneer chassis. I recently found this pick of a 1970 version of Moffat's car and that made my decision for me. Possibly was an evolution of the 69 car with headlight blanking plates? Checking against my old muscle class workhorse pioneer notchback - sizing works but it will need these flared guards as above for decent clearance. Not sure yet how I'll do the flares but it should allow me to get a good track width. (starting this thread for motivation ) 2 Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger. Vinno
I’ve got the same kit but it will be on hold for a while until I use both of my Scalextric Mustang kits first. I have a partially started Scalextric kit based on the same Moffat Mustang you are modeling. I used Miliput for flares years ago when I started mine but I think you could use 2mm sheet styrene for the flares on this. Cut a strip, heat it up a little to get the curve of the wheel arch and then shape it to fit. I will do it this way next time.
Capri-corn7
Thanks guys - no pressure Picked up some styrene and some mini coke bottles - not sure which way I'll go just yet... but some progress... 1 Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger. Never thought of coke bottles, that would be strong. You have just opened up a whole world of new ideas for flares.
Capri-corn7
Given it's the Coca Cola Mustang I just had to go with the bottles This is the starting shape. Then I make cuts and bend & trim Lots of superglue and fancy clamps Then it's ready for shaping I always underestimate the thickness of the guard so once shaped these aren't quite as wide as I'd hoped. I might glue on a styrene extension before getting out the putty.. Edited November 27, 2018 by Capri-corn7 Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger. slotmadmac
Looking good Pat. Same technique that you used on the Datsun some years ago. I have copied this method on some of my own builds. Quote Podiums are for short people.
kalbfellp
Some inspiration from one I did some years ago. These were made by glueing some sheet styrene together and shaping before glueing to the body. Capri-corn7
Added a little strip of styrene to get that extra width and a bead of JB for strength. Made a start on the rears using the same method... Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger.

Capri-corn7
A wee update on very slow progress... We renovated recently and I found left over a couple of these little aluminium window - condensation bungs? (the black thing.) I actually have no idea what they do but they looked like a bonnet scoop to me... Playing with chassis ideas - leaning towards this inline Fly chassis. Front flares need to come down in size a bit too... 2 Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger.
branco
Only a slot car addict would see a bonnet scoop in a window bung.....admit it you have a problem. Capri-corn7
Another problem was a mate called me out on all the MACH1 badges and trim that was molded on the kitset. I originally wasn't going to be arsed but then it started bugging me. So after a heap of sanding and rescribing I have got it to here. The good news is I've also mounted the body on the chassis. Bad news is I can't stop doing laps. Now for the detailing... 1 Quote They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger.
