Peter Gunn
B.R.M are about to put out their latest 1/24th offering the Mini Cooper comes in 6 liveries 5 are Martini and one Gulf at £105 each, and a white kit at £85 , and you can see a preview of the Gulf one on Pendal's site , this car could be in high demand being a Mini.
manimmal
I'll be getting at least one for sure, however these liveries suck. I would have jumped on one if there was a livery that did anything for me. Oh well, maybe run 2 will include liveries that are to me worth the $200aud odd these bad boys cost. I'm sure these will run great, the other ones do, although we're getting more pace from the Fiats. Perhaps the Mini will bring the fight to them. SlotsNZ
Manimmal - interested hearing that you guys are running the Fiats. I KNOW your car tune standards, so I am interested to learn whether you endure the noisy gears, replace, or somehow quiet them down. - I must admit, the Fiats tempted me, and the Minis tempt me - and if a mix of both competed on a roughly equal footing it would be even better. dangermouse
I don't find the gears noisy on these cars - they aren't as noisy as the Revoslot cars - I suppose they also aren't on the same level as a NSR or Plafit but when I read your post first thing I thought of doing was giving one a run because I hadn't thought of them as being noisy and wanted to see if they were
manimmal
5 grams of weight behind the guide, 1/32 stock Revo rear tyres, adjust guide travel to approx. .5mm. That's your cog improved. Remove the motor, then adjust the rear axle grub screws until it runs free and true - for mine the noise (and lost pace) is from one or both rear axles not being set accurately enough. Oh, and thread lock for both those grub screws, and the rear bearing mounts. Ensure rear toe is at least neutral, or with toe in. We all know rear toe in improves stability, and in experimentation found toe out with these guys is of course bad, slower lap times times about 5%. This said, with toe neutral or in lap times were too simular to measure or even feel a difference. We race these guys socially on my 20 metre layout and they are brilliant. Between us we have a renault, a simca, 3 nsu's and three Fiats. I've found the heavier renault is more competitive at higher voltage, whereas the lighter fiat is better with the voltage turned down. All 8 cars have a best lap time within 3/10ths over the 20 metre track with me driving, so a slight loading of the field keeps the slower guys competitive and the quicker guys interested. For the record there's four of us normally running my three lane layout, where we take it in turns to marshal. Two guys are fast, two not so much, and the other fast guy is a lane specialist. These cars make the car/lane loading simple, unlike some 1/32 cars where often the slower guys can't control the faster cars. munter
Ensure rear toe is at least neutral, do you mean camber? Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality
manimmal
Nah, the toe, the whatsit joint will work for both toe and camber With that in mind, camber is kept negative. I think we tried neutral camber and didn't like it, but I'm not sure, I was a few beers in.... Oh, also , there is a benefit to coating the front tyres in superglue or whatever too, although the mini has front stub axles so likely won't need any. munter
Is that rear axle set up better than a solid/fixed diff axle like most slotcar use? Quote John Warren Slotcars are my preferred reality

GAS41T
Negative camber is / ....positive camber is the opposite.....toe In is the wheels turning in to each other an tie out is the opposite ... munter
I would be surprised if there is toe in and out adjustment but the camber change is possible with these independent rear axles. When I was into 1/1 Minis I bought some negative camber brackets for the rear subframe/axles for a healthy price from a Mini speed shop in the UK. Then I read a book on how to modify your Mini and simply modified the standard bracket myself.....simples. manimmal
Seems the escort has a 21k motor, so John my thinking is that they will be to scale, although that may be an issue on my outer lanes. 1 Quote My mum says I'm an excellent driver
manimmal
So yeah, i'm full of crap. I got the Gulf Mini from mrslotcar yesterday, courtesy of my old man for Christmas. It has the low profile rear tyres stock. I put a basic set up, lube and tyre true on it and yep, win. I haven't raced it with experienced opposition yet, but i reckon it's at least on pace with the fiat. Oh, and it's a mini. My old man used to race one, and until early this year i had an r53. manimmal
On my track my Gulf Mini is quicker than my fastest Fiat, although not by much at all, which makes for a good dice. The Mini and the Fiat play well together zide by side too - bonus. A green Martini livery has also mysteriously appeared courtesy of the lovely wife. I have fitted the supplied lower profile front tyres to this guy, but it hasn't yet seen the track. I'm interested to see where the green Mini will sit on the leaderboard. Will the BRM class become a mini benefit? Quote My mum says I'm an excellent driver
