Snowy Monaro Mountain Madness

Recommended Posts

This is the shorter, twistier, remade Bonython Blacks track, now located in sunny Cooma in the NSW Snowy Mountains.

I have managed the first piece so far (lvl 1) and the frame supporting it. Room is only 2.5 * 2.65 m so is a bit squeezy.

Two options for the upper rail:

1: flow the corkscrew down and then back up into the flowing sweeper (joins the donut) and make a new raised large u turn to link it all back together. This reversed the flow along the sweeper and down the donut compared to when it was at Bonython.

2: retain the upper link as per Bonython (flow UP the donut into the sweeper and back along the top rail to the corkscrew). Make a new (larger u piece) to link it all back up on the lower level.

The difference - elevation change and (#1) become more challenging to drive) and is a bit more work to complete. (#2) retains some of the old flow with a much shorter straight. Short straights are needed as the room is much smaller than before...

Many thanks.

Tonight’s update fixes the three levels at height, with enough clearance for the dreaded trucks...

This pic shows the shape of the new bit (is my fence for the router...). Will bring the old right hander onto the start line into an ‘s’ curve, coming into the old start straight just after the old start line.

Not much straight, still get to use the best of the curves Andrew made for me and keep some of the flow it had before...

Will be a bit slower and a bit more technical...

Progress!

Just need the new twisty joiner and the lower level snow scene, electronics and the computer...

...shorter, more corners, more gloss surface...

That bottom corner, the one with the holes, it's going to be tricky if the car hangs it's tail out if you don't widen the track a couple of cm.

May the downforce be with you.

Whoo hoo! It runs!

No timing yet, and still needs the fence.

Grip good, will need to be quick on the trigger to be quick.

One little bump coming out of the donut which needs a little work and then all ok.
