There have been fireworks as you wll understand by the qualy results
Posted ImageQualy by alexisgaitanis, on Flickr

There have been some pleasent surprises:
Pole for car #60
Top qualifying positions for cars 46,86 and 5
and were transformed into good race results from memory

and some bad ones:
cars #21,27,170 and 25 had absolutely no grip
cars #66 and 3 when their tires got warm got grippy leading to unexpected rolls

There have been casualties:
-one of the Lotii could not go around a corner as the guide which i had trimmed(obviouslynot enough) hit the bottom of the slot so it did not race that (penultimum)heat fearing chassis damage
-21 one of the lead wires got wrapped around the guide and broke ,i think it was during the last heat
-6 kept rolling and rolling and as a result lost driver and windshield ,both recovered and will be fixed in place before the next race. Also one of the rear tires got loose ,coming off every second corner drivers got instructed to take it easy, will be fixed before the next race.

I know you are craving for results so here is the race podium, thats all i remember
:first: 33
:second: 30
:third: 54

And i cannot find an explanation since it was not like that on shakedown and they were not on the same tires (21&27 Ninco,170&25 NSR ) while other cars on the same brands had lots of grip (#18 NSR #30 Ninco). It crossed my mind though it could be the interaction between different brands of tires,i will make some research.

Anyhow one of the entrants is shod the possible 2019 control tires and if it performs well, and in this race it did, that will be the end of the tire wars in this proxy.

Congrats to the pods especially Brumos got a very good car there and a all round performer looking at the times out on it,s own on Nicks track , close for the next 3 places then there comes the rest, do think the motor difference is quite telling looking down the field seeing most of us are on the same motor in the end can't beat horsepower looking at it, and there is to much variation in this BWA type motor.
On a personal note did hope i had put up a car to challenge the top spot but looking at last years results here i,ve gone backwards , i think mainly due to that motor as my cars seem to be smooth and handle well , long way to go and my money is still on 30 , i would like to congratulate all entrants some fine cars this year.

9th not a bad start Grant when you look at the times of those around you very similar to quali and only the first race , do think differant tyres will suit differant tracks as the series go along , apart from no 30 which seems to go well everywhere :)

Post race repairs car#21.
The damage was not serious but complicated. One of the lead wires got wrapped around the front axle braking as a result with side effect puling the motor towards the front. It is also a possible explanation to the complete lack of grip of this car.

Posted Image20180415_113816 by alexisgaitanis, on Flickr

I think the way the wires were laid and glueing the braids on the gide was not a good idea.I removed everything and used standard MRRC braids
Posted Image20180415_114347 by alexisgaitanis, on Flickr

but swapped the braids with thinner and softer ones.Theni clipped the lead wires, new ones, from the front of the guide

Posted Image20180415_134124 by alexisgaitanis, on Flickr

Now everything moves freely

Still to do glueing tires of #6

Request permission to glue tires of #5 as now i undrestood why she was hoping during the last lap, right rear was loose

Jag #6 back in shape and tires glued .I accidentally touched the guide and found that it was too tight so i ventured a repair.Passed a drilling bit of 3.45mm,quite a scary operation on an assembled chassis but now it works fine.I loosened the body screws by 1 turn and lets see how she behaves next round
Posted Image20180415_175458 by alexisgaitanis, on Flickr

Note to self:in next years rules forbid the use of allen screws for mounting the body

Cars #5 tires glued
