Thanks terry

Ps my cousin lives on the old Amaroo Park raceway & I can still see remnants of the Mt Druitt raceway which Brabham raced on....Gee all the race tracks we have lost!!!

And how much I miss Oran Park my favourite cars where the super sedans (grp5) my old boy would take me good times and memories...

Hi Terry,

This thread evokes a whole lot of wonderful memories, the start of my motor racing (big & small…) life…

Growing up, the house next door was “The Manse” – the residence for the local Presbyterian Minister. His son had the glorious name of Rudi Anneveld – who ended up being the Chief Grid Marshal for Warwick Farm.

So, my first motor racing meeting was Feb 14th 1971 (yes, Valentine’s day…) – the Tasman Round at The Farm….

There was all of 6 races held that day – and the first event for something like ‘Modified Sedans’ was won by Bill Fanning driving the Ian Hindmarsh Motors Ford Escort TC #66…..

My adopted racing # ever since, wherever possible….

Pete’s Mustang also won a race that day, as did Colin Bond’s Torana…

The main race was won by Frank Gardner, in the Lola T192…..

Since that day I managed to get to all of the race meetings at The Farm, with the notable exception of the ’73 Tasman Round as it was pouring – I was inconsolable for hours about not going to that…

Hate to think how many laps I walked around the outside of The Farm , from our base at Ledger Corner, past Polo and the Northern Crossing over the Shell Bridge at the Esses and the Dunlop Bridge to Hume Straight. If we were feeling game we’d venture down to the Creek Corner hairpin (the spectators down there were a bit ‘special’)… more likely we’d continue back down around the Western Crossing, the Homestead and Paddock Bend back to base…

Frank Matich was a bit special at The Farm – the way he dominated the ’72 AGP in the A50…

And then in mid ’73 it was all over – but I was at the last event, I think Brock won the ATTC round in the XU1?

There are similar tales about Amaroo and Oran park from ’72 onwards as well, but that’s for another time……

Cheers,

Tony.

There's only two questions:

1. What direction do you go

2. What's the Lap Record?

I took these pics on the Saturday practice, thats why some pics show no-one there!

Looking back I'm surprised that I was able to take any photos, somehow I think that todays flaggies would never be allowed to do that.

I will need some help here, I know its a Brabham and I'm fairly sure the pic was taken at Sandown, John Harvey driving, is it a BT23A Repco?

This came from the lot that Bob Jane sent to me while I was in the army, so it was 1969

Norm in action at BP, cannot recognise the 2 following cars, although the Celica may be Brian Sampson, this is raceday 1973

Hi Terry,

That's probably Mike Gore in the Monaro. Norm retired mid 72 and sold the Monaro to Mike Gore. That is Sambo in the Celica. He was in that car at my first race meeting as a Flaggie at AIR in 75. I believe he has it under restoration at present.

Marshals can still take pics but very limited, none on race day. well there asked not to.

You are right Lenny,

I sort of guessed the driver, I wasn't 100% as I didn't like the helmet in the pic, never thought of Mike Gore, I do stand corrected,

Mike Gore was a fairly colourful character, had a used car yard on the Hume Highway at Cabramatta, only a stones throw from Creek Corner at Warwick Farm, would often paint raunchy advertising slogans on the car windscreens to attract buyers, things lime Horn box and pussy puller, I seem to recall he was the first one to get his hands on a Phase 2 HO, ran the motor in at Oran Park after we had used the circuit for one of our car clubs lap dash meets.

Further on down the track I heard that he had a lot to do with the development of Sanctuary Cove, one of Joh Bjelke Petersons infamous white shoe brigade, I could be a bit off the mark on that one, but he was a colourful character.

I think his son was the team principal in a V8 Supercar team running a Falcon with Jason Bargwanna.

Yeah I remember Mike Gore more for the white shoe brigade. I remember seeing a photo of the Monaro when he had it with a big perspex bubble over the intake trumpets. I think he committed a couple more atrocities like that on the car before moving it on.

His son did run a v8 team, can't remember his name, WPS, stood for Wright Patton Shakespeare, some sort of dodgy finance operation. they ran falcons from memory I think there is a line to 888 racing through betta electrical racing. I'm a bit blurry on the bumper cars.

I was wondering if the XU-1 behind Gore is Russell Skaife (big nose's dad).

Nearly all my flagging at Oran park was done at "BP" then I got "promoted" to the flag point on the start/finish line, obviously this would have been practice Allan Hamilton in a MacLaren M10B F5000

Great shot of the SR4 in its original set up with the high wing, could it be Catalina 1969?

Thats all my pics for now, I've unearthed about 100 slides relating to motorsport so I'm about to get them converted into digital jpeg format, that may take a little while to get done.

Its been fun sharing these pics around
