Official Rules 2018 v.1.1

September 5 2017

Changes to the previous rules are marked in red

The International Proxy Series is for any GT or Sports road racer (two seats, full fenders, open or closed cockpit, has to have been entered at least once) from 1965 or earlier in 3 classes according to the position (in the slot car) of the motor:

-Rear engined

-Front engined. In order to be eligible for this class cars have to be built according to the relevant rules otherwise they will be automatically classified as rear engined

-Slimline engined

Organization:

The International Proxy Series (IPS) field will be restricted to 32 entrants. The entry fee is US$30 per car and individuals and manufacturers are encouraged to prepare and submit cars. Each entrant may enter up to 2 cars(or 3 as discribed in registration thread) ,second&third car fee US$ 20. The IPS is organized by Alexis Gaitanis (alexis in greece).

Cars are to be posted to:

Alexis Gaitanis

33 Bakoyanni str

Vrilisia 15235

Greece

and must arrive to the race central before tech ,on March 20 2018.The first 2 local rounds will be held end of March -begining of April 2018,there will be no penalty for late arrivals but they might miss one or both rounds.

All cars will be photographed and will pass through technical inspection as they arrive until March 20. If a car is found to be out of compliance with rules the car will at the organizer’s discretion have adjustments or modifications made in collaboration with the car owner to bring the car in compliance of IPS rules, or the car will be returned to the owner (time permitting) to be brought within compliance of IPS rules. No changes to cars beyond maintenance and necessary repair will be made after passing through technical inspection.

Finishing order for each round of the proxy race, and the entire series, will be determined by distance covered, based on laps within a set amount of time. A minimum of 3 minutes racing time per car per lane is required at each track. Otherwise, each race will be conducted according to procedures chosen by the individual track host. Each car is to be raced in a fair and equal manner and subject to the same track conditions. Lane and driver rotations to be determined by track host. Track voltage, preferably 12 volts, determined by race host, but should be equal for all cars.

There will be three classifications

-Distance:Top finisher of each race will get a score of 100 and subsequent finishers will get a score equal to the percentage of the distance of top finisher covered.Example:if top finisher completes 50 laps and scores 100 and second completes 49 laps he scores 98(49=98% of 100)

-Concours:only cars with custom paint/liveries are eligible, scoring is 18-14-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points. As there might be more than one judge in each race each car will receive the average score.Example if a car gets from 3 judges 18 10 and 5 the score for that race will be 11(18+10+5=33/3=11)

-Scratchbuilt chassis:any allowed material but cars with laser cut or 3d printed chassis are not eligible.Scoring is 18-14-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points accoridng to finishing order in each race

In case ot ties number of wins will be taken into account, then number of seconds and so on

A running inspection of cars is to be made before and after each race. Cars may be cleaned, lubricated and tires sanded. Minor repairs such as braid , wire or screw replacement, gear adjustment or wheel reattachment to take place prior to the car being raced and will not be penalized. If car breaks during a race the track owner or driver may repair that car during its race heat time and return it to the track losing only the time needed for repair. A broken car, if running, may complete its race heats at the track owner’s discretion. Major repairs which take longer than race time, such as chassis fix, guide fix, gear or motor replacement will be completed at the track. If the car’s owner wishes, the damaged car will be sent home for repair between races at the car owner’s expense. Car is to be forwarded to the next event also at the owner’s expense.

Car Rules

The following rules are to ensure a competitive field of scale model race cars. International Proxy Series race organizer decisions are final in the interpretation and application of these rules.

I. Body

1) No vacuum formed or blow moulded bodies. Bodies must be injection moulded or resin cast, in 1/32 scale (as claimed by manufacturers). This will allow cars that are slightly out of scale to be used as long as they comply with rule 2 below regarding max width.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

2) Bodies may be no wider than 57 mm (2.24”) (excluding mirrors, side exhaust , door handles and solid fenders extensions such as Mercedes Gullwing) at the widest part. But they have to look right,I dont expect to see a Ferrari 166 MM 57 mm wide.Cars non compliant will be returned to their owners.

29481162773_970973b08e_o.jpg

3) Tires must be fully under the fenders. No tire may project beyond body work, as viewed from above, at maximum side travel of wheels. Body modifications such as flares over tires are not permitted unless the actual car raced with them.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

4) Bodies must be removable to allow inspection and photography prior to the first race and to allow maintenance and repair during the race series.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

5) Driver figure is required, with representation of at least head, shoulders and arms. If vac-formed, must be of reasonable detail and proportion (Champion style is not permitted). Paper drivers are not permitted. Driver must be in period costume I.e. no full face helmet.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of 5% of distance covered in each race .

6) Interior must include representation of dashboard top, as seen through windshield, and shelf under rear window, as appropriate to actual car. Vacuum formed interior pieces may be used.No mechanical parts to be seen through cockpit .

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of 5% of distance covered in each race .

7) Clear window material must be present as on the actual car. Windows may be vacuum formed.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of 5% of distance covered in each race .

8) Required body details are head lights and tail lights, as appropriate. Working lights are not required.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of 5% of distance covered in each race .

9) Any paint, decals and markings may be used. Racing numbers are required. Both “fantasy liveries” and accurate reproductions of real cars are encouraged.

#1 is reserved for previous years winners.

10) Entrant’s name must be written on underside of chassis in paint, silver Sharpie, or engraved. Body screw adjustment information on car underside is encouraged.

11) The car must be pre-registered and race number obtained prior to tech inspection. Duplicate race numbers will not be permitted.

II. Chassis

1) Chassis must be of inline motor layout, but is otherwise open. RTR-based, modified, or scratch built is permitted. Aftermarket axle blocks are permitted.

2) Carbon fiber is not permitted.

Cars non compliant will be returned to their owners or entrants may provide required replacement parts at their own expense time and money wise.At any rate cars not compliant will not be permited to race until they comply

3) Width from outer tire shoulder to outer tire shoulder for front and rear axles may not exceed 55mm (2.16”).

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

4) All wheel drive, front wheel drive and multiple motors may be used only if the actual car used them. Otherwise car is to be rear wheel drive.

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

5) Underside of car chassis and body must clear track road surface (not rails), on level track, by 1.5 mm minimum prior to the running of the first race. Gears may be lower, but cars may be excluded from racing if gears contact the track or rails, and track owner judges them a hazard to track or rails.

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

6) Guide must be entirely under body, and not visible when viewed from above.

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

Recommendation---

As a general rule the guide should go through Ninco and Scalextric R1 turns.

Problem guides:

-Slot.it wood SICH07 even if depth trimmed, too long, does not go through Ninco R1 corners.

-Scaleauto SC-1601-1602-1603

And any other of similar dimensions.

Guidelines

Max depth measured under braids: 5,8 mm

Max length : 22 mm

Max thickness of the blade : 1,9 mm

There will be no penalty and no guide changes ,but if a car cannot go through the corner it will be considered as DNS and will be awarded 0 points for that race.

7) No traction magnets are permitted.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

8)Front engined cars

8a)No solid front axle.

8b)If a plastic rtr chassis is used original motor position must be retained

8c)If a scratchbuilt chassis is used the distance from the front face of front axle to the rearmost point of the motor (endbell or can,not bushing or shaft) cannot be longer than 32mm=1.26”.Front and rear axles must be centered in wheel wells

Cars non compliant will race as mid engined.

III. Tires and Wheels

1) Rear tires must be rubber or urethane,no silicone or foam, maximum width wall to wall 7mm.No chemical treatment of tires (such as oil soaking) is permitted

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

2) The rear wheels cannot have a smaller diameter than the front wheels. The visible portion of the front and rear wheels must be within 1mm of each other in diameter. Front tires must have an outside diameter within 2mm of the rear tires ie no low profile tires.

If, say, you have rear wheels of total dia of 20 mm then your front wheels cannot exceed 20mm and cannot be less than 18 mm.

Entrants with cars non compliant may provide required replacement parts at their own expense time and money wise.

Failure to comply will incur a penalty , until they comply, of :

-5% of distance covered in the first race if the issue can be fixed before the series start or

-5% of distance covered in each race if the issue cannot be fixed

21806671920_ab105c68f3_b.jpg

3) Front tires can be from any manufacturer provided they are rubber or urethane (no silicone tires allowed) and not exceed 7mm width.Front tires may be from any manufacturer as long as they are not silicone. Minimum width allowed is 4.5 mm but they can be profiled so that a narrower area contacts the track. Clear finish may be applied to front tire tread area.

4) Wheels can be from any manufacturer. Inserts should be applied to wheels, unless wheels are spoked or pierced in at least a semi-realistic manner. Blank aluminium discs, or three-slot discs, must be covered with an insert period compatible.

IV. Motors

1) Motors must be stock, as manufactured, but may be run-in prior to this race series. No changes or modifications to motor are permitted aside from removal of capacitors, chokes, or resistors external to the motor.

2) No capacitors or other electrical devices may be fitted to motor circuit, except for as-manufactured suppressor and lighting devices.

3) Motors drawing excessive current, which results in slowing other cars on the track, or tripping of overload protectors in track circuit, will be regarded as faulty and disqualified from racing on that track.

4) Motors are limited to Ninco NC1, NC8, BWA FF-050 slim can (old and new 2013 version), BWA-NC1 (old and new 2013 version), Cartrix TX-1, Pink Kar Power Plus 1, Artin white endbell 13,000 RPM/12v motor,M/T FF-050/SL1 slim can and M/T FC-130/SL1(M/T -1 FC130).

Cars non compliant will be returned to their owners or entrants may provide required replacement parts at their own expense time and money wise.At any rate cars not compliant will not be permited to race until they comply

To overcome the BWA motor availability as of September 20 there will be small stock available to entrants (for the time being only NC1 type) at a cost of US$ 6 per motor plus postage.

Postage costs (covers up to 6 motors) to Europe 7.20 US$(6.06 euros) , ROW 7.50 US$ .For those living in the UK there is the possibility of posting the motors from London to save on postage (as friends and family travel to and from frequently) provided there is time.

As I hate penalties ,the following rules infringements have surfaced in previous years, please avoid them:

-mechanical parts show under cockpit

-tires too wide

-ground clearence

-width over 57 mm

This race series is to be conducted in a friendly manner. Any entrants, hosts, race organizers or spouses of said participants found guilty of impeding the delivery of this proxy will be judged by their peers. Any skulduggery, pirating, intimidation or bribery is highly recommended. I have a weakness for beer.

Have a great proxy.

Hope you are well...

I think it's about time I got back into building again so if possible I would like an entry. It will be rear engined.

I've got no chance of getting hold of a motor so can you let me know how to go about getting hold of one of the stock NC1's I would be very grateful.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alexis.

Hope to enter again next year but can you just pencil me in at present. At the very least I will need to build a new chassis as the Sebring appears to be well past it use-by date (or was it the old Ninco tyres). Will probably keep with slimline

At this stage probably No. 72 Ferrari 250 GTO again.

Hi Alexis,

Put me down for an entry in mid engine class please. I'll re-fettle the E-type and send her off again, she's got a bit of bark off her so won't win any concourse awards. #16 if available

Cheers

Hi Curef99,

What is its current width, the body can go to 57mm as per rule 2.

The wheel / tyre outer to outer can only be 55mm max.

Hi Zegas.

When was the tyre outer to tyre outer figure reduced. Rules still appear to say 55mm max. not 53mm. Can see nothing on this thread about reduction.

Hope my Ferrari 250 GTO will still comply.

Typo Chas,

I meant 55mm.

Now edited, thanks for picking it up.
